The California Legislature passed a bill this week with bipartisan support that would ban the use of red dye No. 40 and five other chemicals in foods served at public schools.

The state became the first in the nation to pass a bill that, if signed into law, would forbid the use of the ingredients – which are found in some popular cereals, ice creams, drinks, candy and more – from public school foods, according to the Environmental Working Group, a nonprofit environmental health organization that cosponsored the law with Consumer Reports.

Great work 8th graders on making your first gumbo roux! We did not set off the smoke alarms so I call this a win.

Behind the scenes in 8th grade. It’s our breakfast sandwich commercial week. Kids are making a commercial for their breakfast sandos using some of the techniques they learned in class…. Including celebrity appearances 😄

What am I making? Hint- it’s a sauce and would have gone great with the crab cakes I’m no longer making (commercial season delay!)

2nd period’s bake-off theme was ‘Movies’. Some were very clear and others… not so much but the effort that went in to their displays and recipes was apparent! One group in particular really thought outside of the box with a Japanese fruit sandwich. The Elf cupcakes were amazing!!!
