are a rare, highly seasonal soft date variety from Coachella Valley known for being deliciously sweet, crisp, and crunchy when yellow, and creamy and caramel-like when fully ripe.

💛 Unlike most dates, Barhi dates are unique because they are fully edible and delicious at multiple stages of ripeness:

💛 Khalal (Semi-Ripe/Yellow): Harvested in early-to-mid August, these are bright yellow, firm, crisp, and slightly sweet with a hint of coconut or sugarcane.

💛 Rutab (Ripe/Browning): As they soften, they turn an ombre brown color, becoming soft, chewy, and rich with a caramel flavor.

💛 Tamr (Dried): The final dried and wrinkled stage with low moisture.

South Bay, we’re coming soon! ✨

Our very first Gus’s Market location outside San Francisco will be opening in the Cornerstone Shopping Center in Los Gatos in spring 2027! We’re bringing high-quality groceries, fresh produce, full service meat + seafood, prepared foods, a sushi bar, local/specialty products, and the same warm hospitality we’ve championed for the last 45 years! 

New to this market will be a cafe with an indoor-outdoor patio, fresh-baked breads and an expanded prepared foods section with customizable bowls + more 😉 We’re so excited and can’t wait to create a new neighborhood spot centered on great food, local connections, and good old-fashioned neighborly service!
