Religious and political organizations gradually become fixed and rigid. Life is a constant change, a continual becoming, a ceaseless revolution, and because an organization can never be pliable, it stands in the way of change; it becomes reactionary to protect itself.

The search for Truth is individual, not congregational. To commune with the real there must be aloneness, not isolation – but freedom from all influence and opinion. Organizations of thought inevitably become hindrances to thought. K

The biggest problem for San Francisco is smack in front of us. Still, sadly, most do not realize this, though seen around us daily. Most, including the media, are deeply conditioned to our surroundings; we are ignorant about our community standards and codes, complacent, indifferent, and inactive. How else could we allow our neighborhoods, commercial streets, schools, parks and playgrounds, and natural areas to be abused, misused, overused, and vandalized? Why else would we permit this participation and endorsement of various misusers, vandals, self-absorbed greedy businesses, and corrupted politicians and government bureaucrats in its degradation? Our finest government officials and employees have always been dammed if they do and damned if they don't. If a significant minority of us adhered to our codes and regulations established after public hearings and voted by our elected representatives for our collective best interests, we would experience a notable change for the betterment of our quality of existence.

Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent—it takes a touch of genius and a lot of courage to move in the opposite direction. Wisdom demands a new orientation toward the organic, the gentle, the elegant and beautiful. For it is no measure of health for one to be well adjusted to a sick municipality.
