The Gators 🐊 bringing the heat at the Keeling invitational over the weekend!

This weekend saw some amazing performances by our Speech & Debate Gators. In Individual events Victoria and Devyn advanced into eliminations in Prose, Poetry, and Impromptu. πŸ’― In Novice and open Parli debate, Maria and Virginia received a top speaker award. James took top speaker overall in Open Parli. πŸ™ŒπŸ»

Finally, Virginia and James advanced to the final rounds in open Parli debate picking up a win on a 2-1 decision. πŸ‘πŸ»

We are grateful to our tournament hosts at Chabot college and to our amazing coaches Teddy, Oliver, and Pablo who supported us throughout the day! πŸ’œ

The SFSU ForensiGators 🐊 began the spring half of the season this weekend in Salt Lake City, Utah!

Sandy Phan and Victoria Meuter-Montijo represented the Gators in Individual Events at the Utah Great Salt Lake Classic/ UTEP Classic Swing tournaments. Both Sandy and Victoria broke into eliminations receiving a coveted place in top 3 in Prose, Poetry, Extemporaneous Speaking, and Impromptu. Their efforts allowed the Gators to capture a top two position in overall IE sweeps. πŸ™ŒπŸ»

On the debate side, Virginia Kerr and James Gooler-Rogers broke into elimination rounds making their way to quarters. Both were in the top ten best speakers at the tournament, with James top 3 overall. πŸ’―

We are forever grateful to our amazing and dedicated coaching staff, especially Oliver Tripp πŸ’œ who traveled with us out to snowy Utah. βœˆοΈβ„οΈ

The end of the semester is here, and the Gators 🐊 are studying hard for their finalsπŸ“š! It was a very special semester filled with new friends and new adventures! 🀩πŸ₯³πŸ˜

First, we are so grateful to all of our graduate student coachesπŸ’œ! On top of pursuing higher education, they devote countless hours to the SFSU speech and debate team, traveling for long hours and committing so much of their energy to the growth of our team members. Thank you to all of you! πŸ™πŸ»πŸ’―

Second, we want to wish the students who are graduating or moving on to other things all the love in the world. Thank you for being a part of our special family and for growing with us. Best of luck to you allπŸ’•πŸ’˜πŸ’žπŸ’“πŸ’—πŸ’–πŸ’

San Francisco Speech & Debate team swept the competition at the 50th Annual Santa Rosa Junior College Invitational over the weekend. In Individual Events, the perseverance of Sandy Pham and Maria Valencia brought the Gators second place in overall Individual Events Sweepstakes. Sandy Pham took 2nd in Novice Extemporaneous speaking and 4th in Impromptu speaking.

On the debate side, Alex Miguel & Miranda Pokorny fought their way to finals in novice parliamentary debate. Miranda also received the top speaker in the novice division. Virginia Kerr & James Gooler-Rogers took 1st place in the open division, fighting their way to finals late Friday night. James was 5th speaker overall and Virginia received top speaker in the open division. The effort by the debaters in novice and open clinched the 1st place in debate sweepstakes for San Francisco State University.

We are grateful to our coaches, Pablo Ramirez and Teddy Albiniak for their support over the weekend. We are also grateful to our wonderful grad students who support us in preparation and practice.
