Join me in Utica, New York this Saturday, October 3 for a hands-on storytelling workshop, taught through an improviser's brain.

After helping thousands of people tell stories, I've realized my job isn't really to teach storytelling.
It's to help people trust the stories they already have.
I don't believe there's one "right" story.
I don't think every story needs to be funny.
I don't think you have to be charismatic, polished, or naturally gifted.
I do think people connect with honesty. With specificity.
With stories that sound like the person telling them.
Those are the kinds of stories that stay with us.

As I prepare to send my youngest to college(!!) I had the pleasure of being interviewed this week by about bedtime rituals... specifically a new crop of AI tools that has been pushing to help parents concoct bedtime stories.

Am I a storytelling ju**ie? Yup. I am. Evidence Exhibit A: Tuesday I picked up friends Abdul Kenyatta and .dennis who tagged along with me to my class-finale showcase of stories at Vivalon . 5 genius stories about losing your way, finding your way back, and discovering who you are along the path.

Exhibit B: Later that day, Dennis, Abdul and I were joined by and for our monthly Simply Said showcase at the Lark Theater . The theme "Passenger Seat" drew out a bevvy of nailbiters and tearjerjkers. Dennis's story about his remarkable 504 protest in 1977 was a highlight of the night.

Exhibit C: While I got to take a night off from hosting, I couldn't resist coming to support and listen to two former San Quentin inmates sharing "Stories from the Inside" at the . Bravo to and and deep appreciation to who tied the night together, creating personal & systemic change to turn suffering into opportunities for learning & healing for incarcerated people in CA.

Guilty as charged. See you next time, Marin County!

South Bay AND North Bay Area friends: I’m exploring the idea of offering my first Palo Alto and/or Novato storytelling workshop series THIS FALL.

They would be a small-group, multi-week workshops focused on finding, shaping, and telling personal stories, with a final showcase at the end.

If that sounds like something you might be interested in, I’d love to hear from you. I’m gathering interest now before setting dates and location:
