According to the Women's Sports Foundation, girls are dropping out of sports by age 14 at higher rates than boys. That’s why SCORES created Selecta, our all-girls soccer program led by supportive female coaches where girls can build their skills and discover the joy of being part of a team.

In preparation for the 2026-27 season, Selecta coaches came together for our second annual Selecta Con at Bladium Sports and Fitness Club in Alameda. The day was filled with games, brainstorming, team-building activities, and conversations about how to ensure girls have every opportunity to benefit from the power of soccer. Coaches also participated in referee training through our partnership with Cal North Soccer.

With your support, we can make an even bigger impact this school year by helping more girls get in the game, build confidence, and find a team where they belong: https://www.americascoresbayarea.org/donate

Students at Willie L. Brown Jr. Middle School in San Francisco came back to school to find a brand-new beautiful soccer field waiting for them! 💚

The project was made possible by a donation from Airbnb’s FIFA World Cup 2026 Host City Impact Program, which is helping to drive lasting local impact and ensure the benefits of the FIFA World Cup extend well beyond the tournament.

Located in Bayview, a neighborhood with limited access to park space, the new field provides students with a much-needed safe place to play and connect. As Principal Malea Mouton-Fuentes shared at the field unveiling: “This field is much more than a turf. It is a space where our students will learn teamwork and build friendships.”

Airbnb is a partner in SCORES’ 11-field “Safe Play Spaces Initiative,” alongside the Herbst Family Foundation, Playing for Keeps Foundation, San Francisco Unified School District, Count Us In, and school-site PTAs.

Terry Fisher has been part of American soccer for more than fifty years. He moved through nearly every corner of the American game — professional leagues, indoor soccer, youth development, World Cup licensing, state soccer associations — before joining America SCORES Bay Area as an advisor in 2023. In our latest Five Questions With, Terry talks with us about what he found when he got here, how soccer in this country has changed since the NASL days, and what it would take for a program like SCORES to stop being the best untold story in the Bay Area: https://www.americascoresbayarea.org/5questionswith-blog/2026/7/28/terry-fisher

On June 22, a group of Poet-Athletes, coaches, family members, and SCORES staff had the incredible opportunity to attend the FIFA World Cup match between Jordan and Algeria. The group consisted of students and representatives from partner organizations such as San Jose Unified School District, YMCA of Silicon Valley, CORAL of Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County, and San Francisco schools Bret Harte Elementary and E.R. Taylor.

The evening was a memorable celebration of soccer, community, and partnership. All partners came together to enjoy one of the world’s most celebrated sporting events while strengthening the connections that support youth and families across the Bay. It was a night filled with energy, culture, and collaboration! Thank you to the Bay Area Host Committee for making it all possible.

What a moment! San Rafael Poet-Athletes were featured on the FIFA World Cup TikTok after walking out with the players before the Paraguay vs. Australia match as part of the Quaker Player Es**rt Program.

Thank you to Quaker and Common Goal for making this incredible opportunity possible! ⚽

06/26/2026

Poet-Athlete Giselle dreams of becoming a professional soccer player, and tonight she'll have the chance to step onto the global stage alongside some of the sport's biggest stars.

Through the Quaker Player Es**rt Program hosted in partnership by Quaker and Common Goal, Giselle and a group of San Rafael Poet-Athletes will walk onto the field with Australia's national team ahead of their FIFA World Cup match against Paraguay.

"My kid walking on that field is going to be the best experience ever," says her dad, Oscar.

We're so grateful for opportunities like this that allow our Poet-Athletes to dream big and be part of unforgettable moments.
