I am honored and humbled. While it is not final yet (not until the board votes in the recommendation later this month), the chairman of the Rules Committee, Supervisor Peskin recommended Me!, Cindy Lopez Chastain for seat #8. There were 2 other very qualified and honorable people contesting the seat. I stated my “2 minute “why me” with no BS today and time to spare to the board of supervisors for the volunteer seat on the Early Childhood Community Oversight and Advisory Committee. I am bilingual a first generation Salvadoran American and a mother of 2 multiracial and bilingual boys born and raised in SF. I have 20 years of service and collaboration with agencies and nonprofits, classroom teachers and families. I created Linguistic Connection in 2008 on a mission to serve the underserved and marginalized. My teams, projects, designs and programs have waxed and waned over these 20 years at Linguistic Connection. What has always remained is my commitment and dedication to children and families. As such, I am on the ground everyday working directly from my own backyard (literally) to in and outdoor classrooms and homes throughout SF, in neighborhoods ranging from preschools in the Vis Valley Sunnydale housing complex to the Tenderloin to Golden Gate Park.
