Dr. Hal B. Heaton is a professor of finance at Brigham Young University where he teaches advanced corporate finance and capital markets. He has also served on the finance faculty at the Harvard Business School and the University of Santa Clara. Dr. Heaton holds a Ph.D. in finance from Stanford University.
He currently serves as a consultant to a number of multinational organizations on issues in corporate finance, valuation, exposure management, capital markets and as an expert witness in hearings and court proceedings for cases involving business valuation. An author of several articles, Dr. Heaton has research interest in valuation and related topics including optimal capital structure, cost of capital, mergers/acquisitions, and capital markets. He has authored articles dealing with business appraisal techniques, the impact of taxation on valuation and firm behavior, and capital market efficiency.
Dr. Heaton spoke at BYU Devotional on June 21, 2005.

Mr. Fosse is a Director at Trucker Huss APC, a boutique law firm with 30 attorneys focuses solely on executive compensation and employee benefits. His practice focuses on all the tax, securities, corporate and accounting issues related to executive and equity compensation arrangements. He works with publicly traded, private, non-profit and government clients in the design, implementation and operation of domestic and international executive non-qualified and supplemental deferred compensation plans, as well as equity-based and other long-term incentive compensation arrangements. Marc also assists clients in drafting and negotiating executive employment, retention, change in control and severance agreements and programs. Marc regularly advises clients regarding handling employee benefit matters in corporate mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, initial public offerings and other corporate transactions.
Marc is a frequent speaker on executive compensation matters. He is also a course leader on negotiating employment agreements for the Institute for Strategic Negotiations.

Katie Fitzgerald, Business Development at CircleUp
Katie joined CircleUp after gaining substantial experience from positions in investment banking and private equity. She began her career at Deutsche Bank advising technology companies in mergers & acquisitions.
Later, Katie was with H.I.G. Capital, a global private equity firm, where she focused on identifying and evaluating investment opportunities, executing transactions, and working closely with portfolio companies across various industries and sectors, including consumer products.
In joining CircleUp, she was able to combine her strong interest in the consumer sector and the investment process, as well as embrace her entrepreneurial spirit.
Katie received her BA in Economics from the University of California, Irvine where she graduated with honors. She holds Series 63 and 82 licenses with WRH+Co.

Patrice Mano , Partner at Deloitte Tax
Patrice Mano is a Washington National Tax Partner co-leading the WNT Accounting for Income Taxes group. She consults companies on the application of accounting standards such as ASC 740 (FAS109 and FIN 48) and IAS 12. Patrice serves as the National Leader of Internal Training for the National Financial Accounting & Reporting – Income Taxes Group of Deloitte Tax LLP.
Patrice has been a guest lecturer for various organizations including Tax Executives Institute, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, American Bar Association, Bureau of National Affairs, Practicing Law Institute, and Council on State Taxation.
Prior to joining Deloitte in 2002, Patrice worked for Arthur Andersen LLP as a member of the International Tax Group in San Francisco, California and with Grant Thornton LLP in Utah. Throughout her career, Patrice has served clients in a variety of industries including financial services, technology, real estate, manufacturing, retail, hospitality, and private equity.
Patrice received her Bachelors of Science and Masters of Accounting degrees from Brigham Young University. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Russell Hancock, President and CEO of Joint Venture Silicon Valley
Russell Hancock is President & CEO of Joint Venture Silicon Valley , a group of government and business leaders tackling tough regional issues. He also teaches in the Public Policy Program at Stanford. His interviews regularly appear in The Wall Street Journal , The New York Times , and Forbes and he is often seen on "Good Morning America" and "NBC Nightly News". He is also the host of "Inside Silicon Valley", a weekly radio program airing on KLIV. San Jose Business Journal regularly lists him on their annual list of Silicon Valley "players".
Dr. Hancock was educated at Harvard in the field of government, and he received a Ph.D. in political science from Stanford.
Rusty leads a parallel life as a concert pianist, appearing with symphony orchestras throughout the United States, and is the founder of the Saint Michael Trio , a group appearing regularly at Montalvo Arts Center, Stanford University, and the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts.
Rusty is married to Marguerite Gong, and they are raising three children. A former bishop of the Stanford Ward, in 2011 he was called to serve as a counselor in the Menlo Park Stake presidency.

Kim Smith is the Managing Director of the Peery Institute of Financial Services and an Associate Teaching Professor in the Business Management Department.
He came to the Marriott School in July 2007 after twenty-eight years with Goldman Sachs in NYC and Tokyo. Kim spent the bulk of his career at Goldman in fixed income derivatives sales. He also headed campus recruiting for the Fixed Income, Currency and Commodities Division from 1995-2000. In his last assignment, he headed firmwide financial markets and products training for all Goldman's professionals and key clients within Goldman Sachs University.
Kim served as a member of the 6th Quorum of Seventy, assigned to the northeastern U.S. and Canada, from 2003-2007. He received his MBA and BA (Economics) from BYU . Kim is married to the former Julie Elaine Brown and they are parents of three daughters and one son.

Had an awesome luncheon yesterday. Big thanks to Matt McCauley, CEO of Gymboree, for coming out. He shared several lessons he learned on the path to becoming CEO and discussed the importance of making those you work with feel confident and valued. Great example!
