The Goethe-Institut language department (BKD) continues to show its appreciation to teachers by continuing to shape new programs, professional development and way to support teachers! They spent three full days exchanging ideas and planning in Covington, GA.

The opportunity to ask a politician all the questions on your mind - students at Mt. Lebanon High School had the chance to do just that.

The interview questions explore Metin Hakverdi’s personal background, education, and motivation for entering politics, including his experience growing up with a multiracial background in Germany. Students asked about transatlantic relations, examining his views on the U.S. political system, governance structures, evolving German–U.S. relations, and how his time in the U.S. influences his work and personal perspective. The interview concluded with the lighthearted yet deeply significant question about soccer, namely St. Pauli or HSV. 🇩🇪🇺🇸

This event was organized and moderated by the Goethe-Institut USA as part of an initiative to connect U.S. students with German policymakers. It was a great Zoom meeting with interesting answers and food for thought. Many thanks to Mr. Metin Hakverdi for taking the time to speak with us during this challenging time in the world and to Mr. Josh Baringer and students at Mt. Lebanon High School for preparing these very important questions.

Congrats to this years winners and all the amazing teachers of the year award recipients! We hope to see all you amazing German teachers at the two nationwide conferences - AATG 100 Years: Forging the Future July 11-14 and at ACTFL from Nov, 20-22!

Don’t forget to watch out for our scholarships and stipends to travel to the conferences in the years to come!
