We love our German teachers and we believe all it really is worth it to become a teacher! All of our future German teachers are also very important to us. You are part of a community of engaged and motivated community of teachers!

We bring the German

The Goethe-Institut New York connected one of our GAPP schools, Northampton High School (PA), with German company Evonik for a day that went far beyond the classroom.

Students kicked things off at Evonik’s Allentown Innovation Hub, exploring labs, touring facilities, and talking directly with employees about STEM, careers, and how German plays a role in global industries.

Then they took it to the field with BVB Soccer Academy, training with professional coaches and even using their German along the way.

This is what it looks like to connect learning with real life: building pathways, creating opportunities, and bringing German into the world beyond the classroom.

The opportunity to ask a politician all the questions on your mind - students at Mt. Lebanon High School had the chance to do just that.

The interview questions explore Metin Hakverdi’s personal background, education, and motivation for entering politics, including his experience growing up with a multiracial background in Germany. Students asked about transatlantic relations, examining his views on the U.S. political system, governance structures, evolving German–U.S. relations, and how his time in the U.S. influences his work and personal perspective. The interview concluded with the lighthearted yet deeply significant question about soccer, namely St. Pauli or HSV. 🇩🇪🇺🇸

This event was organized and moderated by the Goethe-Institut USA as part of an initiative to connect U.S. students with German policymakers. It was a great Zoom meeting with interesting answers and food for thought. Many thanks to Mr. Metin Hakverdi for taking the time to speak with us during this challenging time in the world and to Mr. Josh Baringer and students at Mt. Lebanon High School for preparing these very important questions.

This year we have celebrated so many amazing teachers and held sessions around teaching German nationwide at all the regional conferences. Check out the teachers we celebrated at SWOLT, NECTFL, Central States, SCOLT, And PNCFL!

Did you know that the Goethe-Institut promotes German teaching in the US through scholarships at the regional conferences? Well, we do!

Congrats to this years winners and all the amazing teachers of the year award recipients! We hope to see all you amazing German teachers at the two nationwide conferences - AATG 100 Years: Forging the Future July 11-14 and at ACTFL from Nov, 20-22!

Don’t forget to watch out for our scholarships and stipends to travel to the conferences in the years to come!

We had an amazing time at all the big regional language conferences around the US this year. Thank you to everyone who was on this journey with us! That won’t be the last of us this year…
