Support the Dream and Promise Act! 05/03/2019

Have you supported The Dream & Promise Act today? There's still time to come over to the Nursing Mezzanine (PAR) or Genetech Atrium (Mission Bay) and tell congress why you support Dreamers.

Support the Dream and Promise Act! Join me in calling Congress to pass this important legislation.

Current Advocacy Issues | UC San Francisco 05/01/2019

Make your voice heard before Congress votes on the Dream & Promise Act, which would protect millions of immigrants across the country – including those that work, study and contribute at UCSF. Join student groups and UCSF Advocates in reaching out to our Congressional representatives at UCSF phone banks at Parnassus and Mission Bay on May 3.

Happy first day of Black History Month!

The MRC has rescheduled our free training about whiteness, medicine, and social justice with the Catalyst Project for Saturday March 9th from 10-5pm! You can RSVP for the training at: tiny.ucsf.edu/catalystproject

Ahead of the training, we will be holding two lunchtime discussion groups to candidly talk about different aspects of white supremacy culture & institutionalized oppressions at UCSF. The first training will be on Tuesday February 5th in CL-211 from 12-1pm, and the second will be on Tuesday February 26 from 12-1pm in S-157. The discussion groups are not prerequisites for attending the training, and you can attend the groups without attending the training (and vice versa).

For any questions about this series of programming, you can reach out to Zoé Samudzi at [email protected].

Next Thursday and Friday December 6 and 7, massage therapist Bobbi Knowles will be giving out 10 minute massages in the Learners Lounge (the student lounge space next to the MRC office) to help alleviate finals stress and also teach students how to better incorporate self-care practices into their everyday routine. You can sign up for a time slot on either Thursday or Friday using one of the two links on the flier 😌

It's time for our second Black Eatz on Wednesday December 12! Join the MRC at the Faculty Alumni House from 5:30-7:30 for an evening of food, games, giveaways, and community -- a perfect break from finals stress.

UCSF Faces Race is a yearlong initiative by the MRC to engage racist, sexist, homophobic & transphobic, and ableist histories of science that impact clinical practice, teaching & research, and campus experience (for students, faculty, staff, and researchers). In addition to panels/dialogues and screenings, the initiative will also offer trainings around anti-racism and direct action to help give campus community members more tools for creating positive social change both at UCSF and across the Bay.

The first event, a townhall discussion, will be held on Tuesday 11/13 from 6-8PM in CL-211 in the Parnassus library. Come learn about how you can get involved!

Latinx Heritage Month (September 15-October 15) may be coming to a close, but we will be celebrating Latinx culture and uplifting opportunities for community support and solidarity at the end of this month (and all year long!).

On Monday October 29th, join us for an evening of Latin dance from 6pm-8pm! In celebration of Día de los Mu***os, there are two sugar skull decorating sessions in the UCSF Makers Lab from 11:30am-12:30pm and then 12:45pm-1:30pm on Tuesday October 30th. On Thursday November 1, we'll have a public reception and viewing of the altar offerings in the UCSF library from 3-5PM.

On Wednesday October 31, there will be a training on allyship with undocumented communities here at UCSF with Rachel Ray, Managing Attorney at the UC Immigrant Legal Services Center, from 12pm-1pm.
