Typical school lunches are out. 🚫

At Life Learning Academy, our culinary arts students are cooking up restaurant-quality meals - and this dish proves it. With guidance from Chef Taj, students prepared a teriyaki grilled salmon over jasmine rice, paired with fire-roasted peppers and corn, roasted broccolini, a silky parsnip purée, and a Cajun lemon butter sauce that brought the whole plate together. 👨‍🍳✨

This is what happens when students get real kitchen experience, hands-on mentorship, and the chance to build skills that last a lifetime.

We're excited to share LLA's newest career pathway in action: Automotive Technology!

This semester, students have been getting genuine, hands-on experience under the hood, learning to diagnose engine components as they work as a team on real vehicles. Every session includes proper safety gear and close guidance, because we want students learning skills they'll actually use.

At LLA, we believe that every young person deserves the resources to build a career they can be proud of. The Automotive Technology Pathway is giving them exactly that: a marketable skill, hands-on confidence, and a roadmap to success in the industry.

We're grateful to everyone supporting this program as it grows, and we can't wait to show you more of what our students are doing! 🚗🛠️

"30 YEARS LLA Radical Love💙🩵

Today, I am honored to introduce the Life Learning Academy staff for the 2026–2027 school year!

For 30 years, Craig Miller and I have believed in students whom too many others had forgotten. We have watched them rise up—not because we lowered expectations, but because we surrounded them with the right people, held them to high standards, and reminded them that they are capable of becoming their very best.

I believe with everything in me that when you get the right people in your life, you can do anything. Looking at this staff, I feel renewed hope for the year ahead. These are educators who came to Life Learning Academy because they want to make a real difference in the lives of our students.

Over these 30 years, Craig and I have helped build far more than a school. We have added our award-winning workforce program, therapy and emotional support, stable housing, transitional housing, and The Lighthouse Way—surrounding our students with everything they need to build a successful future.

This is what Radical Love looks like: opportunity, structure, accountability, high expectations, second chances, and people who refuse to let a student give up on themselves.

Here’s to our new staff, our returning staff, and the remarkable students who give purpose to everything we do. We are ready for a wonderful year—and we are just getting started!

This month, one of Life Learning Academy’s students participated in a mock trial through his internship with the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office. He worked side by side with attorneys and other professionals, preparing the case, collaborating as part of a legal team, and experiencing firsthand what it takes to work in the justice system.

LLA is deeply grateful for our partnership with San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins and her office for investing in students and providing workplace experiences that help prepare them for life beyond high school.

What a way to wrap up a summer of adventures! 🎡🎢

This week, our dorm residents took their final summer outing to the California State Fair in Sacramento, joined by Co-Executive Director/Co-Founder Teri Delane along with dorm supervisors Sylvia, Lisa, and Chef Taj. Wristbands in hand, the crew hit unlimited rides and unlimited food all day long.

All summer, our dorm students have gone out on weekly outings together, building community and making memories outside of campus. This one was extra special. One of our students, who hadn't smiled since the summer program began, spent the day laughing on rides. By the time the group got back to campus, he was chatty and animated with his dormmates, sharing stories from the day like he'd been doing it all along.

It's a small moment on paper. But for a young person carrying so much, it's everything. This is what a summer of consistency, care, and community can do.

LLA's no-cost on-campus dormitory is one part of a larger housing model built to support our students at every stage. The second tier offers transitional housing for recent graduates, and the third supports alumni up to age 24 as they move toward fully independent living. Every tier is built to help our students find stability, connection, and a path forward.

🍽️ On One City Day, volunteers across all 11 of San Francisco's districts showed up for their city, picking up trash, beautifying parks, and showing up for neighbors when they needed it most. Life Learning Academy was proud to fuel that work on Treasure Island, catering lunch for the volunteers who spent their day in service to our community.

This is exactly the kind of real-world experience our Culinary & Hospitality Pathway is built for. Our students don't just learn recipes, they learn what it takes to feed and care for people at scale, building skills that lead straight into careers in food service and hospitality.

This is part of LLA's 6-week Summer Workforce Program, where students are placed in paid employment or internships — and today, the kitchen is their workplace and Chef Taj is their boss.

Proud to share one of the highlights of our year at Life Learning Academy! 🙌

This spring, The Swig Company welcomed our Culinary Arts students to the Spring Market at the historic Mills Building in San Francisco. Our students arrived with products they had created, manufactured, and marketed themselves: Garlic & Herbs and Roast Rub spice blends, Strawberry Lemon Tart and Spicy Tomato jams, and honey harvested from the campus beehives that The Swig Company sponsors right here on Treasure Island. 🍯

We are so grateful to The Swig Company for their generous support of Life Learning Academy and for going the extra mile to give our students something truly meaningful: a real stage, a real customer, and a genuine vote of confidence in their potential. Thank you for investing in the next generation of San Francisco's workforce.

This week, Life Learning Academy celebrated 14 seniors who walked across that stage and into their next chapter. 🎓✨

These graduates showed up every single day, in the classroom and beyond, building skills, finding their voices, and proving what is possible when young people have the support, space, and community they deserve.

We are so incredibly proud of each and every one of them. Congratulations, Class of 2026. The world is ready for you.

On May 2nd, our alumni came home for tacos, laughter, a community give-away, and a raffle that included a Draymond Green-signed Warriors jersey.

This community doesn't just graduate; it stays connected, grows stronger, and keeps showing up for each other.
