Presidio Knolls School

Presidio Knolls School Presidio Knolls School is a progressive Mandarin immersion school in San Francisco's SOMA district. Our first 8th graders graduated in June, 2021.

Joyful learning, a sense of belonging, and deep intellectual inquiry define our school culture, where we are innovating at the intersection of progressive education and Mandarin immersion. We currently serve 388 students, from pre-kindergarten through 8th grade. We have added to our school each year until being a complete preschool to Grade 8 school in the 2020-2021 school year. neer in developing a progressive approach to Mandarin immersion education. Our curriculum is project-based and interdisciplinary. We offer a joyful and dynamic bilingual learning experience within and beyond the classroom for students and families who value inquiry, discovery, creativity, compassion, and community. Inspired by a student-centered, inquiry-based pedagogy and informed by best practices in bilingual and Chinese language education, we consistently offer opportunities for our students to take their academic experience out into the world. Our graduates will be multilingual, global thinkers with the intellectual and personal integrity, mental flexibility and open-mindedness, and cultural and technological literacy to lead the future.

Summer shenanigans! In the interest of continuous improvement, PKS staff conducted a highly scientific lunchtime study to determine San Francisco’s greatest dip.

Methodology: extensive sampling, vigorous debate, and repeat testing (for accuracy, of course). Results: inconclusive, will need to run again.

Today's classroom challenges become tomorrow's real-world solutions.

PKS students learn by doing - building, testing, troubleshooting, iterating, and collaborating - which helps them develop the problem-solving skills at the heart of engineering (and other domains!).

Earlier this year, several of our students visited Humble Robotics, a company reimagining autonomous freight just around the corner from PKS! They saw firsthand how engineers think about and tackle complex challenges. "Hands on learning is exactly how we're innovating," a lead engineer shared.

We look forward to welcoming members of their engineering team to PKS in the coming school year, connecting the work our students do in the classroom with innovation happening right here in our neighborhood.

Behind every great school is an exceptional front office.

Whether it's tissues, batteries, Band-Aids, ice packs, walkie-talkies, loose tooth containers, or a reassuring smile, Anais and Jenny somehow keep PKS running smoothly all year round.
