Come dance with us in San Francisco Botanical Garden and Gardens of Golden Gate Park! San Francisco Ballet School is offering two different programs at SF Botanical Garden's annual Flower Piano:

🌸 Friday, Sept 11 at 2:30pm - SF Ballet School faculty member Cecelia Beam, School pianist Billy Wolfe, Company soloist Julia Rowe, and participants from SF Ballet School’s Dance Classes for People with Parkinson’s will share an interactive chair-dance demonstration of Petipa’s ballet The Awakening of Flora.

🌸 Sunday, Sept 13 at 11am - SF Ballet School pianist Danny Sullivan and faculty member Phoenicia Pettyjohn will lead a Family Dance-Along showcasing the music of ballet's fantastic creatures and characters live at the piano.

Introducing Tiny Dances our new family series created especially for children ages 2 to 8. Designed as a joyful first ballet experience, our inaugural production reimagines the timeless magic of Swan Lake. Adapted by SF Ballet Associate Artistic Director Antonio Castilla, this enchanting version features family-friendly storytelling and an on-stage narrator who guides children through the adventure while preserving the beauty, music, and choreography of the beloved classic. "Floating Points brings his niche classical music obsessions and deep love for dance clubs to his ballet score and new album Mere Mortals...Mere Mortals, said Tamara Rojo, the artistic director of San Francisco Ballet, “takes away centuries of accumulation of different interpretations, and goes back to the beauty of this creation — even if it could be potentially deadly.” Originally, Shepherd had wanted to tell the story of J. Robert Oppenheimer and the atomic bomb, but then Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” was announced. Still, similar themes crop up in the Pandora myth, especially in the climactic opening of the jar (popularly known as a box), which unleashes all the evils of the world." Last week we lost a legend. For decades, costume designer Sandra Woodall was the visual architect of SF Ballet's world premieres. She designed over 50 SF Ballet premieres and built dozens more, shaping the look of our work for decades. Her imprint is on our stage this season Yuri Possokhov's Violin Concerto.
