QCP is excited to announce the current cohort of Q***r Cinema Project Fellows (2022-2023)!!

The fellows are Johan Casal (), Shawn Gutierrez (), Ira Irvani (), Thembi Nokia (.z.nkosi), and Chantal Trazo ().

The fellows recently convened along with QCP faculty (Johnny Symons , Scott Boswell , and Laura Green) to share updates on the progress of their LGBTQ+ themed projects.

Q***r Cinema Project is excited to announce Xin Jiang as the 2022 recipient of the Barbara Hammer Award!! 🎉🎉

The annual Barbara Hammer Award honors the legacy of pioneering le***an experimental filmmaker and SF State alum Barbara Hammer (1939-2019) through supporting creators of LGBTQ+ film. 🌈🌈

This year’s award supports Xin’s first year film GOOD MATCH BAD DATE. Check out the trailer and poster for the film! 🎬🎥

Apply for the 2022-2023 Q***r Cinema Project Fellowship!! 🌈🎥🎬 APPLICATIONS DUE ON 10/07 by 5 PM

Fellows meet monthly to exchange feedback, critique, and support with peers and faculty. There will also be opportunities to attend workshops led by q***r industry professionals. Each Fellow receives $200 in production funding. Completed films will be screened at the annual Q***r Film Finals in May.

The stars of the film, Billy Eichner and Luke Macfarlane will be in attendance for a special pre-show conversation. BROS is the first major studio gay romantic comedy about two men maybe, possibly, stumbling towards love, from the producer of TRAINWRECK and BRIDESMAIDS, and the director of FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL.

Congratulations to Haley Seppa for receiving the award for Best LGBT Film at the London International Short Film Festival ()!!

Ataraxia is a film about 32-year-old female-bodied, q***r identified photographer, Mickey, who, due to experiences with trauma and r**e as a teenager, has built her adult life around making “safe” choices and hiding behind the lens of her camera. Until she meets Olivia, a 30 year old “straight” woman who pushes Mickey’s understanding on what it means to actually live and not just to survive.

Q***r Film Finals is happening tomorrow in person at the SFSU Coppola Theatre (Fine Arts 101)!!

The reception begins at 7:30 PM, followed by the screening at 8:00 PM.

Join us as we screen five projects from the 2021-2022 Q***r Cinema Project Fellows. The fellows are Lottie Pacheco-Lobatos , Ray De Mesa , DJ Chan , Sabine Sheridan , and Xin Jiang .

Truth and Fantasy: A Night of Q***r SFSU Cinema (1988-1999) presents several q***r short films made by SFSU Cinema alumni throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s.

This event is part of mission to explore the archives and highlight the larger cinematic history within our community. These films cover numerous genres, subjects and methods of filmmaking, aligned in their common goal of showing the diversity and limitlessness of what a q***r cinema can contain.

Q&A with filmmakers, facilitated by MA student Ryan McCandless and filmmaker .stark, follows the screening. Co-presented by ***r.cinemaproject and supported by the CSU EA.
