While 74% of students participate in a sport, our annual Athletics Celebration is also a chance to honor our departing Seniors along with season wins. ๐
This year, our scholar-athlete-writer-artist-scientist-lego-maniac-all-around-allstars led us to division championships across boys and girls varsity sports.
Student speeches (so many speeches, and so many laughs, too โ more than we can showcase here, so check out our Flickr for more!) highlighted what makes athletics at Urban special: the team spirit, and the memories on and off the field (pitch, court, piste, pool).
Cheers to the Blues, all the amazing coaches, and to our inspiring Athletics directors Joe and Kali! Thanks for a GREAT year. ๐

๐ And they're off! โ The rain can't stop the JOY of the iconic Cal Studies trip: two weeks of bussing and backpacking across California to explore hydrology (so maybe the rain was a good omen?), the issues of water management in so many different ecosystems, the competing demands of farmers, cities, indigenous communities, and, yes, Mother Nature, too. ๐ฐ โฐ๏ธ
Check back in for more pics from this landmark Urban class, as well as info on the always incredible presentations from the Seniors who've made the journey... and returned to tell the tale.

With the end of the school year in sight, what's good for clearing your mind during this busy time? How about a return to childlike wonder and abandon with communal finger painting (and carrot sticks... and popsicles)!
Our Peer Resource group โ which offers student-led support and community for mental health โ hosted a glorious Gardy (garden party) to remind everyone that a little mess can be good for the soul.

With the whole city as our classroom, throwing a block party to hype HIPE (Health Initiatives for Peer Education) makes perfect sense! ๐๐
Games, bonding, snacks, art, drinks, and more gave everyone a chance to meet the HIPE crew โ 11th and 12th grade student leaders who help shape health education at Urban through peer support, workshops, panels, an essential annual survey on teen behaviors, and honest, student-led conversations about the issues that matter most to high schoolers. ๐ฌ๐ฟ๐จ๐ซถ

In the glorious sunshine of Urbanโs backyard, Seniors enjoyed a delicious luncheon โ๏ธ๐ฅ โ one of the last times theyโll all be together as a class โ as they were officially welcomed into Urbanโs alumni community. ๐๐
Earlier in the day, recent Urban grads currently in college returned to campus for the Alumni College Advice Panel, dishing out wisdom and plenty of food for thought ๐ฝ๏ธ๐ญ to the Class of 2026 as they prepare for the next course of their academic buffet. ๐โจ
Thanks to all the alums who showed up to share what a plateful of possibilities are on the menu for our grads-to-be!

Because art is required all four years at Urban, the hallways become galleries of constantly rotating installations in different media, reflecting themes from studentsโ own lives (including these recent works).
Immersed in this kind of creativity day in and day out itโs hard not to be inspired by students finding their unique (visual) voices. ๐

๐ทBebop at the Branch ๐ถ
The Urban School Bebop Combo is taking it off campus and into the neighborhood for a FREE, swinginโ set you wonโt want to miss.
โฐ Thursday, May 21 โ 4:00 pm
๐ Park Branch Library โ 1833 Page St. (up the block from Urban)
Featuring Urbanโs jazz ambassadors (and all-around cool cats๐), the combo will bring bebop classics and American standards to life for the local community.
Come for the music, stay for the vibes, and browse some books (because we love those, too). ๐ถ

What could be more Urban than an all-school prom? โจ
This year, students twirled and grooved beneath the iconic rotunda at City Hall. One unforgettable night, topped off with a balloon drop. ๐๐
