This week, our group present the preliminary research results on radiomics-based NPC tumor prognosis in a multicenter study at ASTRO’s annual meeting 2025 held in San Francisco, CA.

The work is financially supported by PMU-B of Thailand.

Axillary lymph node metastasis (ALNM) is a critical prognostic factor in breast cancer, the most common cancer among women worldwide. Our recent work introduces a novel noninvasive tool that uses multimodality radiomics to predict ALNM. By combining radiomic biomarkers with clinical features, we can create a promising and effective predictor.

The work is recently published in IEEE Transactions on Radiation and Plasma Medical Sciences (TRPMS), one of the premier journals of IEEE Nuclear & Plasma Sciences Society (CiteScore Rank 2024 [Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, and Imaging]: #21/346).

AI demonstrates considerable promise in transforming the radiology workflow by serving as assistive tools that enhance diagnostic accuracy.

Our paper presented a comparative analysis of physician performance in bone scintigraphy diagnosis with and without the support of AI-assistance. It was a collaboration between our group and several NM physicians from the Division of Nuclear Medicine, Department of Radiology, and people from the Center for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine, Research Affairs (all from Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University).

The work was recently published in Physical and Engineering Sciences in Medicine (CiteScore rank 2023: #33/333 [Radiology, Nuclear Medicine and Imaging]).

In addition to oncologic and cardiac imaging, we also explored the use of radiomics in neuroimaging. In this recently published work (in Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging), we applied radiomics from Ictal-Interictal SPECT data for epileptogenic zone (EZ) localization. The result showed promise of radiomics-based EZ localization as a supporting tool for nuclear medicine physicians in clinical decision making. The work was a collaboration between our group and people from Research Affairs, and from Division of Nuclear Medicine/ Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University.

Our PhD students (Nick and Mo) successfully presented our research works at International Forum on Medical Imaging in Asia (IFMIA2025) in Takamatsu, Kagawa, Japan. This year IFMIA drew around 200 attendees.

Another area where radiomics could play a key role is cardiac imaging. We applied radiomics from non-gadolinium cine cardiac MRI to differentiate between ischemic and dilated cardiomyopathy and detecting myocardial scar. When provided with only limited-quality cine cardiac MRI, the radiomic models even outperformed a radiologist in our experiments.

Recently published in La radiologia medica (2023 IF = 9.7; 2023 CiteScore Rank = #11/333, Top10%), the work was the collaboration between us and people from Research Affairs, Division of Diagnostic Radiology Department of Radiology, and Department of Medicine / Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University.

Today, Dr. Sararas Khongwirotphan Aom Sararas, one of our faculties, presented results of her work at ECR2025 in Vienna, Austria. The work investigated to the use of radiomics from peritumoral area for tumor prognosis.

The work is supported in part by a grant from the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT).
