Introducing our Potrero WARP artist, Darolyn Barber! She is a San Francisco based artist from Colorado & has been working with clay for over ten years now. Her favorite ceramics technique is handbuilding (mainly slab work). She loves clean lines, texture and volumetric forms, so her work tends to have these types of qualities. Darolyn appreciates the art of ceramics because it teaches her patience, practice and balance.

Mark your calendars for our artist night on Friday, June 3rd 7-9 pm in which will feature both Rigo & Darolyn's work in which they have created during their tenure in the WARP program.

Our next WARP artist night is right around the corner on June 3rd! Introducing Rigo, one our two WARP residents, is a multimedia artist with a profound love for clay. They grew up in Uruapan, Michoacán, Mexico surrounded by the earth, chickens & avocados and was brought to the U.S. when they were four. Rigo has been working with clay for 10 years now specializing in hand-building. They are a firm believer in the need for connection with clay, because without soul ceramics is just a rock covered in glass. The best way to connect is to push, pull, refine and feel clay with just your hands while in community. Their work is an intersection of multiple identities; being q***r, brown, soft, and transient. Working through the weight that they each hold in a world that shames and eye rolls at the sight of joy.

How much do you enjoy pushing up against boundaries and defying the norm? What about toying with the rules, getting lost, or making mistakes? If these ideas are not particularly your cup of tea, let me just ask one more question - when was the last time you let go, fully immersed yourself in play, and discovered something fresh?

Join us in welcoming Alex Zablocki for a two day-weekend workshop in May (5/14-5/15)! Sign up is now open on the website! We will also have our Friday night artist talk with Alex on 5/13. Be sure to RSVP at clayroomsf.com

Join us in welcoming artist Yoonjee Kwak! Originally from South Korea, Yoonjee currently is a resident artist at Pottery Northwest in Seattle WA. She makes sculptural vessels to represent human beings as iconic symbols from the Korean culture. In Korea, when people talk about someone’s personality, they often use “vessel” as a metaphor of one’s spirit of tolerance. Yoonjee’s interactive conversation with the clay is vital to her process—she slowly builds up clay coils from the bottom, allowing her hand marks to remain on the surface. Through this process of building, memories of patience and time come into her pieces, and she is able to create a meaningful record of her practice. Join us for Yoonjee’s Moon-jar workshop on April 23rd and 24th and in LA on April 26th and 27th. Clayroom will also be hosting an artist talk open to the public on April 22nd from 7:00pm - 9:00pm.

Our window display is seeing new horizons! 🏝 Read more about the artists behind this Animal Crossings themed planter collection below 🐻

is a software engineer turned creative technologist who loves combining technology with traditional art forms. She took 's slipcasting class at to learn how to turn 3D models and prints into slipcasting molds and had so much fun, she can't stop making molds. She collaborated with her studiomate (doing the 3d modeling, 3d printing, mold making and slipcasting while Alice did the design and painting) to make their favorite Animal Crossing villagers come to life as planters!

is a painter and muralist who loves Animal Crossing and is an excited ceramics newbie. She’s painted murals around the Bay Area for places like the Asian Art Museum, Philz Coffee, Slack, Autodesk, etc. She’s also the host of a drawing show for Adobe called “Doodle Therapy.” She plans to take the “Intro to Clay” class starting in February, so if you see her around the studio, give her a shout! :)
