On May 22, 2026, our HMCRA community gathered in the heart of the Castro to celebrate Harvey Milk Day with music, marching, and student voices full of hope. 🌈

Led by our 4th and 5th grade trumpet players and joined by , students marched proudly down Castro Street before sharing reflections on Harvey Milk’s legacy at Jane Warner Plaza.

Thank you to everyone who came out to honor a message that continues to guide our school and community: courage, inclusion, and belonging for all.

It was a special day at Harvey Milk today, with an all-school performance from ! Thank you to the chorus for taking the time to share their songs, stories, lessons, kindness and joy! They even brought pizzas and joined the school Rainbow Club for lunch. Our students are so lucky to have shared this experience! ❤️🎶🌈

What a day! ⚽️🎉

On May 13, we celebrated the opening of our brand-new soccer field at Harvey Milk Civil Rights Academy with an incredible community ribbon cutting—joined by Mayor Daniel Lurie, Airbnb Co-founder and CEO Brian Chesky, members of Bay FC, and special guest Megan Rapinoe!

This field was made possible by America SCORES Bay Area, our amazing PFC, and generous support from Airbnb. It also strengthens our partnership with Girls Unite, bringing even more safe, active play to campus each week.

And don’t miss the center field—featuring a one-of-a-kind penguin mascot by local artist Sirron Norris 🐧

Our annual school carnival is this Saturday (5/2) from noon to 4pm. We will have a bounce house, cotton candy, crafts and games! If you are a current family, a new family joining HMCRA, waitlisted family, someone who wants to come check out the school, or an alum that wants to reconnect, please come join us!

Harvey Milk students and staff had a great first week of the new year! We celebrated at our first Morning Circle of 2026 and the newly formed 4th/5th grade basketball team was announced! We our proud of the students commitment to the team, their hard work, and we appreciate Coach Glenn’s leadership! Their first game will be against Glenn Park Elementary and they will play other nearby SFUSD schools throughout the season. Our school is excited for competition and connections we will make. Go Penguins!
