An Evening on the Stage is just one month away! 🎭 We’re counting down to November 17, and excitement is building at the War Memorial Opera House. Today, we’re so happy to introduce the two incredible women helping bring it all together this year, Co-Chairs Courtney Labe and Jennifer Bienaimé.

Their energy, vision, and commitment have shaped this signature evening in support of San Francisco Opera Guild’s music education programs across the Bay Area.

💬 Courtney Labe shares:
“It is a true honor to co-chair San Francisco Opera Guild’s signature event, An Evening on the Stage. This special evening directly supports the Guild’s award-winning music education programs, which inspire young students through the transformative power of the performing arts, building lifelong skills including confidence, creativity, and leadership.”

💬 Jennifer Bienaimé adds:
“I am absolutely thrilled to help bring magic to An Evening on the Stage on November 17. I love this event because it is intimate yet festive: a celebration of singing, music, friends, and above all, we are so delighted to honor General Director Matthew Shilvock on his 10th anniversary of extraordinary leadership and creativity at San Francisco Opera.”

We’re so grateful to Courtney and Jennifer for the heart they’ve put into shaping what promises to be a truly special evening.

Did you know? For nearly four decades, more than 1,560,000 students have delighted in our English versions of great operas by participating in Opera Together (formerly Opera à la Carte), San Francisco Opera Guild's signature education program.

This fall, Opera Together brings The Pirates of Penzance to students in grades 4 to 12. Professional singers and a pianist take the lead, while students join in as actors and chorus members, performing a 50-minute adaptation of an opera for their school and community. It's one of the Guild's in-school programs, and today it reaches 40,000 students in 65 schools in classrooms throughout the Bay Area.

Swipe through to see our favorite moments from last season and a few fun facts about the program. We can't wait to share your moments from this year's performances!

The Opera Scouts are back in session!

This fall, we welcomed 8 new members to the troop, each bringing energy, enthusiasm, and a unique voice. After a first rehearsal and launch pizza party in late August, the Scouts opened Opera Day in the Bay on September 20, then shared the Herbst Theatre stage with professional Opera Together artists at Meet the Artists on September 28.

Several Scouts are also rehearsing for our new holiday opera, The Velveteen Rabbit, alongside professional artists, and all are preparing for An Evening on the Stage on November 17 and the Holiday Recital on December 14.

This is just the beginning of a very musical season. 🎶 Learn more at the link in bio.

What a night! On Monday, September 28th, our community gathered at the Herbst Theatre for an evening of music, connection, and celebration to launch our 2026–27 season. 🎶 From the stunning performances to the reception that followed, it was a beautiful reminder of why we do this work — and the incredible artists at the heart of it all.

To every artist who took the stage: thank you. We are so lucky to have you as part of this organization. To our returning artists, we’re so grateful for another season together. To our newest members of the family, welcome — we can’t wait to see you in the classrooms.

A special congratulations to Kyra and Kathleen for a breathtaking preview of The Velveteen Rabbit — December can’t come soon enough! 🐰

Bravo to all who performed, and to our Education Team — Caroline, Cece, and Paul — for bringing the evening to life.

Something is in the works. 🎭 This Monday, the lobby outside of the Taube Atrium Theater turned into a film set, cameras rolling, rehearsals in full swing, and a few familiar faces pulled aside for a very special project.

We can't share details just yet, but we can tell you it's for Giving Tuesday, and it's about the voices these programs help our students find, and carry with them.

Thank you, Red Curtain Addict, for helping us share our story! Stay tuned, Giving Tuesday on December 1 is coming. 🎶

Looking back on an unforgettable afternoon with the Bay Area opera community!

On September 20th, our Opera Scouts took the stage at , joining 13 Bay Area opera companies for an unforgettable afternoon at Transamerica Redwood Park. Our Scouts opened the event with a lively baroque chorale, and mezzo-sopranos Kyra Leetz (an Opera Scout graduate!) and Kathleen Moss sang excerpts from The Velveteen Rabbit, the new family holiday opera by our own Caroline Altman, premiering this December, alongside performers from across the region's opera scene.

So proud of our students for representing the Guild on such a special stage. 🎶

Behind every student who takes the stage, there's a community that believed it mattered.

For over 85 years, San Francisco Opera Guild has brought music education to tens of thousands of students in more than 500 classrooms across the Bay Area each year. Because of the generosity of our donors, over 42% of our schools and students participate through scholarship support, ensuring no classroom is ever turned away for financial reasons.

And because of our programs, students experience something that can't be measured in a test score: JOY. The joy of singing together, of reaching a goal as a team, of opening up and filling a room with music. We've seen firsthand what happens when young people find their voice: dark spaces get a little brighter, differences get a little smaller, and joy has a way of showing up when you least expect it.

Arts and music have a place in schools that need it most, because our community makes it possible. Thank you for showing up for our students! 🎭

🎶 In every student, there's a story waiting to be told, and a stage where it can shine. 🎶

Through Book to Bravo!, students bring literature to life, transforming stories into original operas, writing lyrics, building scenes, and performing their own creations. Through Voices for Social Justice, students compose original operas inspired by real-world issues, discovering that their voices and ideas matter.

Offered in English or Spanish for grades 4–12, both 12-week residencies pair professional teaching artists with classroom teachers for 10 weekly sessions, followed by a performance and reflection. Scholarships are available.

Offered this fall 2026 and spring 2027. From the page to the stage, apply now at http://sfopera.com/booktobravo
