Ever wonder how keeps over 10,000 archived replicates organized? Each sample has a number and alphanumeric code associated with it as well as information about when, where, and how it was collected. With samples stored at both and our teams use these numbers to quickly search the freezer databases to keep track of where samples have been stored! To learn more about how to become a citizen/community scientist, check out www.ucedna.com 🧠

The CZU Lightning in Santa Cruz county led officials to place an emergency evacuation order on August 26th for all buildings and labs on campus. Fortunately, the fire remains north of campus, emergency evacuation orders have been lifted, and the team is safe and accounted for. Many of the reserves have been affected by the fires, and staff are doing their best to assess the damage.
This at with reminds us how resilient our environment is and how together we are stronger. Stay safe, follow your local jurisdiction’s orders, and always have a safety plan ready in advance.
