We want our children to be bilingual – to speak, listen, write and read in Spanish and English. We believe that the best way to support them in this, here in San Francisco, is to give them a preschool environment in Spanish. Very soon they will feel the pressure to speak more and more English, and they need a strong base in Spanish to continue thinking in both languages. FOR WONDERING
Children are always asking questions: Why? How does it work? We remember that the art of asking questions is a key part of human intelligence. We welcome children’s questions so that they can be clarified, investigated, and shared with others. COMMUNICATING
A teacher from Reggio Emilia, Italy once said that “To communicate is to learn.” When children learn to communicate their ideas and to listen to the ideas of others, they become citizens of the world. Communication happens in many ways – by speaking and writing, yes, but also by dancing, painting and singing. There are also many subjects on which it is worthwhile to communicate – from frogs to fairytales, feelings to dinosaurs. In all these ways, we share our ideas with the children and listen to their ideas as well. RELATING
Relating with others is a goal we all share. Like us, children want to build deep relationships with their peers and the adults in their world. At school, we value the whole network of relationships that makes up our community. We take time to talk about what it means to be a friend or a member of someone’s family. We continually seek out ways to show the children that they are loved, that they have friends, and that it is worth the trouble it takes to share, collaborate and negotiate with others. AND GROWING
We know that children need many things: healthy food, time in the fresh air, clear limits, interesting things to think about. We the adults of the school have come together to give our children an environment where they can find all this and more, so that they may grow each day stronger, healthier and happier.

Creemos que la niñez no es solamente una fase de preparación para la edad adulta. Es una parte de la vida de todo ser humano. Los niños tienen derecho a que en los días escolares abunden los intereses, las amistades y que haya períodos de trabajo valioso y momentos tranquilos. No es necesario que se sientan felices a cada minuto: debemos ofrecerles una vida que les haga sentirse felices consigo mismos y con el mundo que les rodea. En la escuela nos esforzamos por alcanzar un equilibrio entre las actividades emocionantes y la tranquilidad; entre la rutina y la sorpresa. Los niños pasarán sus días en un ambiente hermoso, creativo y amigable. Queremos que nuestros niños sean bilingües: que aprendan a hablar, leer y escribir en español e inglés. Creemos que la mejor manera de conseguirlo aquí en San Francisco, es brindarles un ambiente preescolar en español. No pasará mucho tiempo antes de que se sientan presionados para expresarse cada vez más en inglés; por esta razón necesitan una base firme en español, que les permita continuar pensando en ambos idiomas. PARA PREGUNTARSE
Los niños continuamente preguntan ¿Por qué? ¿Cuándo? ¿Cómo funciona? Recordemos que el arte de cuestionar es una parte esencial de la inteligencia humana. Las preguntas de los niños son bienvenidas para poder aclarar sus dudas, investigar las respuestas y compartir sus descubrimientos con los demás. COMUNICAR
“Comunicarse es aprender”, comentó una maestra de Reggio Emilia, Italia. Cuando los niños aprenden a comunicar sus ideas y a escuchar las ideas de los demás, es cuando se convierten en ciudadanos del mundo. La comunicación puede expresarse en diferentes formas: hablando y escribiendo, y también bailando, pintando y cantando. Existe una infinidad de temas valiosos que merecen ser comunicados, y éstos pueden abarcar desde los sapos hasta los cuentos de hadas, pasando por los sentimientos o los dinosaurios. En todas estas formas compartimos nuestras ideas con los niños, a la vez que escuchamos las ideas que ellos expresan. SOCIALIZAR
Relacionarse con los demás es una meta que todos compartimos. Al igual que nosotros, los niños aspiran a establecer relaciones profundas, tanto con quienes tienen su edad como con los adultos de su entorno. En la escuela, valoramos la red de relaciones que forma nuestra comunidad. Exploramos lo que significa ser un amigo o un familiar. Buscamos continuamente formas de demostrarles a los niños que son amados, que tienen amigos y que vale la pena realizar el esfuerzo de compartir, colaborar y negociar con los demás. Y CRECER
Sabemos que los niños necesitan alimentos saludables, tiempo al aire libre, límites bien definidos, y actividades interesantes que los motiven a pensar. Los adultos de la escuela nos reunimos para brindar a nuestros niños un ambiente en el que encuentren todos esos elementos y muchos más, con el fin de que crezcan y se desarrollen para ser cada día más fuertes, más sanos y más felices.
