Sometimes the scholarship team needs a little more info, or that "transcript" you uploaded was actually a picture of your cat (it happens!). Check your email inbox and spam folder today. 📧

If you accepted your disbursement more than 3 weeks ago and haven’t seen a cent, your scholarship might be on hold due to missing or incorrect documents.

February is Black History Month! This year marks 100 years since Dr. Carter Woodson first established Black History Month. We celebrate the resilience, creativity, and achievements of Black students, alumni, changemakers, trailblazers, and everyday heroes who have shaped our past and continue to inspire our future.

We kicked off our first 10,000 Degrees Cohort Meeting of the year at SFSU! 🎉

Cohort Meetings are an intentional space for scholars to connect with our team, meet other scholars, and build community. These gatherings are designed to share important organizational updates, explore upcoming opportunities, highlight campus resources, and engage with our Career Success support.
We had 14 scholars join us for our first meeting — can we count on you to pull up at our next one in Spring 2026? Stay tuned for more updates!

We hope to see you there! And yes, we always come prepared with scholar incentives, snacks, and lunch… so don’t miss out!

This year, Messiah graduated from San Francisco State University with a degree in Biochemistry — and we couldn’t be prouder! 🔬

She’s accomplished so much already, and she’s not stopping there. Messiah plans to take a gap year to focus on herself and then return to school to become an ultrasound technician.

Please help us congratulate Messiah on this incredible milestone and cheer her on as she takes her next steps!

We are so proud of Melissa, a 2021 Maisin Scholar alum, who graduated this year from Sonoma State University with her B.A. in Psychology and a minor in Education!

Melissa is currently working with youth as she prepares to apply for a master’s in Developmental Psychology—and we can’t wait to see what she does next!

Let’s show Melissa some love!

She also has some advice for all the scholars heading into college or powering through senior year:

“My advice I would give a first-year student is not to be scared to ask for help. I know as young adults we wanna do everything ourselves, but college can be scary—and sometimes it’s okay to ask for help. Also, use your resources on campus—sometimes you can get some pretty cool things for FREE!!!”

Help us celebrate Daisa, who graduated from UCLA with a degree in Sociology and a minor in Film, Television, and Digital Media! 🎓 This summer, she’s keeping the momentum going with an internship at Range Media Partners — booked and busy! We’re incredibly proud of everything Daisa has accomplished and know this is just the beginning.

Before heading into her next chapter, Daisa had this message for our newly awarded scholars:

"No dream is too big. Put yourself out there and you can (and will) accomplish everything you put your mind to!"

Today, we commemorate Juneteenth—a powerful reminder of resilience, freedom, and the unfinished work of justice. Educational equity is part of that work, and we remain committed to expanding access and opportunity for Black students across the country.
