We had so much fun celebrating Purim! The festivities included a school-wide art project and carnival, an Encanto-themed Purimshpiel put on by our 8th graders, hamantaschen baking in Kindergarten, and so, so many costumes.

Brandeis students love field trips! 🧡 This past week our Kindergarteners got to visit the Bay Area Discovery Museum just over the Golden Gate Bridge in Marin County. We are truly lucky to live in such a beautiful place.

Election week at Brandeis!
As part of our ongoing focus on civics and democracy in the Lower School curriculum, Brandeis K-4th graders recently took part in a congressional election on campus. Students had the option to nominate themselves as potential leaders, and then each class held a primary to pick candidates. There were posters and speeches leading up to Election Day, and then all students voted using secret ballots. What a wonderful opportunity to practice public speaking, thoughtful decision-making, and winning and losing with grace! Our newly elected officials will now begin the hard work of representing their constituents and making their campaign promises a reality.

Mazel Tov to our Brandeis Lions basketball teams for a season filled with dedication, collaboration, and a ton of hard work! We are so grateful to Coach Corrie for her incredible leadership, and for creating an athletics program that brings our school values to life.

Mazel tov to our 8th graders, who led a beautiful, meaningful tefillah service on Thursday morning.
The Brandeis gymnasium stood in for the Am Tikvah sanctuary (which is under construction) but that did not diminish the joy and pride of everyone who was there! Closing the service by singing the alef-bet song with their Kindergarten chaverim buddies is a cherished school tradition, and kicks off a series of end of year milestones as the Class of 2026 approaches graduation in June.

In biology class, Brandeis 7th graders are given the opportunity to take part in a rat dissection. Afterwards, they prepare for a practical exam that requires them to label the parts of the digestive, endocrine, circulatory, and respiratory systems.

Shout out to drama teacher Joanne Green as we get ready for the premiere of Annie Jr. next week!
Musical theatre is a VERY popular elective at Brandeis, and this year marks the fifth production of Joanne’s tenure at our school. Hundreds of students have performed under her direction, learning important lessons about the discipline, dedication, and collaboration skills required for young actors. We can’t wait to see the curtain rise on opening night!

We have had so much fun celebrating Hanukkah at Brandeis! 🥞💙
Last Friday, our Parent Association hosted a latke and donut-filled community Shabbat dinner on campus. Starting Monday, the Student Community Board led our annual Spirit Week, which invites students to light up their classrooms with costumes and games. On Wednesday, a Hanukkah Concert with performances by our band and chorus students, and on Friday… PJs and Pancakes! We wish everyone a safe, restful, and joyful winter break. See you in 2026!

Kindergarteners created their own Torah scrolls! At our Simchat Torah celebration in October, the students watched in awe as their 8th grade Chaverim unrolled and held open the entire Torah.
Afterwards, they got to “read” from the Torah, touch the sturdy stitched parchment, and admire the intricate cover and embroidery. Then in their classrooms, they got right to work! Painting and rolling out the special paper, deciding how best to depict the story of Beresheet, cutting and sanding rollers, molding the clay crowns, and designing personalized felt covers.
The project concluded with a joyful celebration, joined by proud family members and faculty. Thank you to Brandeis Judaic Studies teacher Mr. Ferris for developing and guiding this wonderfully memorable project for so many years.

🪸This past Monday our 2nd graders participated in the Marine Science Institute’s “Inland Voyage” and got to interact with live marine animals right outside their classrooms! 🦀
Next week they’ll continue this exciting science unit on plant and animal relationships during a field trip to the Institute’s beachfront facility in Redwood City. Thank you to our 2nd grade teachers for arranging this super fun program, and to the Marine Science Institute for bringing their mobile aquarium to Brandeis.

There’s nothing better than welcoming our alumni back to Brandeis. 💙💛
Last week’s gathering was filled with smiles, laughter and hugs as alums reconnected with each other, beloved faculty, and the school that shaped them.
Once part of the Brandeis family, forever a part of it. We look forward to hosting more celebrations like this in the future.
