Please Touch! Sometimes it's important that we don't touch objects on display in museums. But SFSU Museum Studies Program students learn that it is also important that we DO engage in object-based learning whenever possible (like with replicas)! And Twiggy agrees! Thank you to recent alum Sophie Chorich for an amazing original exhibit on object-based learning in the The Global Museum.

We can't wait to welcome you back! The The Global Museum will open for Spring 2026 starting February 4.
🗓️ Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays
🕦 12:00pm-4:00pm
📍 Fine Arts building Room 203
🚧 Closed for campus holidays
WHAT'S ON?
📍 Main gallery:
Craft or Commodity? features a selection of items from San Francisco State University-stewarded collections, originally acquired in the mid-20th century by faculty researchers studying international arts adapted to be sold in tourist markets. SFSU Museum Studies Program student curators researched and interpreted the objects to honor their makers and their legacies of craftsmanship. Also highlighted are the clues the objects reveal about the impact of colonial histories on their makers.
📍 Global Lab:
Please Touch! explores how (and why) SFSU Museum Studies Program and the The Global Museum are making hands-on teaching tools, using models of ancient Egyptian stamps and seals. What is Object-Based Learning and why is it effective? Interact with various items, tools, and techniques we have used to make touchable teaching possible, and play in the Clay Play Lab!
