Vote pro-labor and pro-justice, now! This week learn about your future College Board leaders, LaCroix, Lee & McFadden for City College Board, one per day. Please vote by November 3rd to turn the tides and support a bright future for CCSF.

Introducing LEAH LaCROIX 💥

A dedicated public servant and policy advocate, Leah LaCroix has been fighting for the youth of San Francisco since her own teens - for transportation, food security, and student needs. She entered SF State as a sophomore thanks to CCSF’s high school dual enrollment program. Leah believes that City College is one of San Francisco’s most powerful engines of economic justice and her highest priority is investing in our students.

The only candidate running for City College Board who has held citywide office, Leah was elected to the local Democratic Party from 2016-24, serving as First Vice Chair and Parliamentarian. During her tenure, Leah focused primarily on voter registration and education. Leah has also been part of the California State Central Committee (CA Democratic Party). She currently serves on the board of directors for Mama G’s Street Dinners in the Tenderloin.

As a Youth Commissioner, Leah championed Free Muni for Youth and worked to ensure it was permanently funded. She’ll bring the same fierce determination to defending CCSF for our students and employees.

A staunchly pro-labor candidate with a history of active union membership, Leah’s vision for City College’s future includes greater public input and oversight to increase transparency, growing course offerings to reestablish trust with the students who need them, and collaborating on a long-term plan for the board to secure stability. She believes this can be best achieved by steering away from corporate management philosophies. Above all, Leah sees CCSF as a public good that must serve students from all backgrounds and provide students the resources designed to help them succeed.

Leah is endorsed by CCSF Board of Trustees Susan Solomon, Vick Chung, and Anita Martinez, as well as Supervisors Connie Chan, Myrna Melgar, Chyanne Chen, Shamann Walton, and Jackie Fielder, and, former Supervisors Sophie Maxwell, Aaron Peskin, Norman Yee and Jane Kim.

Introducing JEREMY LEE 🏆

As a third-generation San Franciscan with deep roots in the local Chinese community and in public education, Jeremy Lee brings extensive advocacy experience to the City College race. Jeremy has been an affordable housing advocate in Chinatown for over a decade and has a long track record of assisting low-income seniors and families. He is a passionate fighter for the needs of our communities and has worked for pro-labor candidates like Jane Kim and Chyanne Chen. As a member of the SF Redistricting Taskforce, Jeremy fought against the disenfranchisement of San Francisco’s marginalized Black, LGBTQ and marginalized communities by opposing undemocratic gerrymandering.

Jeremy is committed to continuing CCSF as a student-serving institution by maintaining Free City and increasing enrollment by protecting non-credit offerings. By focusing on relationship building, navigating diverse perspectives, and offering transparent, data-driven solutions to challenges the college faces, Jeremy is highly qualified to represent a wide array of stakeholders and cement real change.

Jeremy is endorsed by City College Trustees Susan Solomon and Vick Chung, the San Francisco Women’s Political Committee, Supervisors Connie Chan and Chyanne Chen, former Assemblymember Tom Ammiano, former Board President Norman Yee, Free City Champion and Former Supervisor Jane Kim, community leader Reverend Norman Fong, and others. Catch Lee on “Between the Fog and the Fury,” a podcast that analyzes local politics through an Asian American lens.

Introducing DR. BUNNY McFADDEN 💫

A Chicana mother, community college and high school teacher, union site rep, and non-profit program director, Dr. Bunny McFadden is a Board of Trustees candidate who understands the concerns of faculty, staff, and students. She grew up sleeping in the faculty lounge while her mother, a janitor, cleaned community college classrooms, and she later graduated high school early thanks to community college.

Bunny spent nearly a decade working in high school and community college classrooms, before earning her Educational Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction while parenting two children under two. Bunny’s experience also includes union site representative, joining picket lines (including turning out nearly every day of last year’s UESF strike at SFUSD), nonprofit boards, nature education and programming, neighborhood beautification projects, workforce development, and local journalism. Her fearless takes on SF politics, education, and culture can be seen on her popular Instagram account.

Bunny believes CCSF is the most important institution San Francisco has and she brings extensive experience to her vision for CCSF, which centers on preserving our role as a community college. She sees the college as an ecosystem and educational habitat for students across home and satellite campuses that truly enriches our city. To support her vision, Bunny is committed to consensus-building and will work collaboratively with peers, students, faculty and community members to ensure the future of CCSF meets the needs and dreams of our students.

Dr. Bunny McFadden is endorsed by Supervisor Connie Chan, former Board President Aaron Peskin, former Supervisor Dean Preston, former Mayor Willie Brown, and trustees Susan Solomon and Vick Chung, and a growing list of others.

Actual accountability: this is why we need a strong college board. YOUR VOTE IS CRITICAL. See the full statement from AFT2121 president Robin Pugh below:

We are angry and heartbroken about the news that City College’s Chancellor Kimberlee Messina is under investigation for financial misconduct, including padding her $350,000 salary with unauthorized stipends.

City College’s enrollment has rebounded since COVID; our finances are stable; and our students, programs, and employees remain second to none. We change lives, and that mission deserves quality leadership at the top.

Unfortunately strong leadership and real accountability will not happen with billionaire dark money influencing who is elected to City College’s Board, the body entrusted with choosing the college’s leaders and holding them accountable. Make no mistake: a billionaire-backed majority on our College Board chose Kimberlee Messina. Students, labor, & community were clear in supporting a different candidate, Dr. Carlos Cortez, but the GrowSF-backed majority on our Board ignored the input of the people who make CCSF great.

That’s why it’s so important, whether you receive a ballot by mail next week or vote in person on November 3, that you vote for Leah Lacroix, Jeremy Lee, and Dr. Bunny McFadden (LaCroix, Lee & McFadden for City College Board) for College Board. Endorsed by teachers and SEIU 1021 classified staff, Leah, Jeremy, and Dr. Bunny have the courage, vision, and commitment to bring real accountability to the top of City College.

You can meet all three candidates at a mobilization and canvass with Supervisor Connie Chan, Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal, and others this Saturday Oct 3 at Chan Kaajal Park 11am-2pm. All links in the comments.
