6 Vocal Exercises To Warmup Your Full Range/High Notes Daily (Bonus Tips Included) 05/22/2023

Another warm-up video I fully endorse! I do similar warm-ups with my students. (The only thing I disagree with her on is breathing- my opinion is you should always breath in through your MOUTH because it sets up the oral posture for singing, rather than needing an additional step). Hope you enjoy!

On this day we take time to morn and remember our trans siblings who have been horrificly murdered THIS YEAR. This year is one of the worst on record, and the majority of our people targeted continue to be black and brown women. And just last night in CO, another act of violence and harm toward the LGBTQIA+ commuity by an insane person... Today I am not ok. We all must fight together, now more than ever in this increasingly volatile political climate where trans rights are being used as a leveraging tool by people who understand nothing. We MUST work to protect trans lives and trans safety and trans vitality and trans wisdom and trans family. All of us. Every day. 🕯🕯🕯🎨:

Thank you to my teacher Silvia Nakkach for this beautiful reminder from her Yoga of the Voice practice. Before you sing, relax the body. Take a deep breath in and relax on the sound as you exhale a on a pitch that feels GOOD. ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨

As someone who is recovering from muscle tension dysphonia (MTD), I have noticed that when I am singing and “focusing” or “practicing” or “trying,” my voice gets really tense! But, when I’m PLAYING, or DANCING, or MOVING around just for fun… Presto! My voice is open, relaxed, and resonant! Try this: put on some ambient, instrumental music, start to just breathe and tune into your body. Moving in a way that feels good! Then, add in voice, again just using sound in a way that FEELS good—Not a song that you’re practicing or perfecting for performance— sound on air. Just enjoy and breathe ✨

SO EXCITED TO SHARE WITH YOU THIS AMAZING PROJECT I'VE BEEN A PART OF BUILDING: ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨Introducing:
Trans Voice Initiative (TVI)!

TVI is a volunteer organization of transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming speech-language pathologists who want to create a safe space for TGNC SLPs to grow their skills and knowledge in gender-affirmative voice and communication.

The field of speech-language pathology urgently needs highly skilled and intersectional leadership of trans, non-binary, and gender non-conforming individuals, particularly in the area of gender affirming voice.

Our goal is to continue to open the gates for intersectional trans leadership in the field of speech-language pathology, and ultimately, drastically improve the quality of care to the transgender community.

While this training is initially only for TGNC individuals, the greater field will benefit immensely from the highly skilled leadership emerging from this project.

Like waves…like surrender… Our breath and voice are natural, easeful, healing. Just close your eyes, let your body take in air, and let it out on a simple tone (ahh, ohh, hmm). This. This is enough. This is good.

We may not be able to physically touch others during this strange time, but we can continue to share our hearts. As we go into the second week of "shelter in place" here in California, I'm thinking a lot about how isolated people can feel. So, as I go for my daily walk I've been making sure to smile at people that I pass. I've also been keeping in mind the Buddhist meditation of loving kindness, and silently wishing it to people as I pass.

****"May you be happy. May you be healthy. May you be safe. May you be at ease."****

I'm sending that to you all right now ♥️♥️♥️
