Dr. Theresa Crocker, a wonderful local veterinarian, just posted an excellent article on pasture sugar levels in horses and reminded her clients to be aware of how much sugar tasty young grass can have in it for those horses that are sugar sensitive. She also reminded all of us that with fall comes acorns and oak leaves which can be considered tasty treats by some horses and are very upsetting to the GI track. For those of you trying to hand gather acorns before your horses consume them, a manual acorn weasel or nut collector may be helpful.

Join me at the Nevada County Paint the Town Pink fundraiser for the local hospital Foundation Board. I have donated a free design consultation and a chalk pastel to the silent auction in honor of my Aunt Beth. On her last visit to Nevada County, Beth and I road horses together laughing at the ponies and spoiling them with carrots. In loving memory.

Are your blankets water proof and ready for winter? Make sure they are in good repair and properly adjusted for your horse's current weight. George loves his Rambo Turnout Rugs in different weights for different temperatures. They have been custom darted around the shoulder and are used with the detachable neck covers to create a cozy dry "rain jacket" so that George can enjoy playing in the pasture with his friend Toby even in inclement weather.

Thank you to Ivetta Heart for judging the Cowboy Dressage Schooling Show at Blue Fountain Farms. You were incredibly generous with your time, expertise, and your kindness and tact as a judge impressed everyone. Thank you also to all the volunteers. The show was literally made possible with your support. Congratulations to Jess and To The Maxx, they won every class they entered and were high point champions for the day with a 78%!

Equestrian Architecture can mean so many things. The coffee table books I have full of grand stables and palatial estates are beautiful, but if you ask my Swedish Warmblood George, he would say that its hard to architecturally improve upon the shade offered by the hundred year old apple tree in his paddock that he likes his breakfast served under. George loves having a stall. His house is his secure place where he can relax knowing that predators are not sneaking up on him. George puts himself away into his stall but he is quite distressed if he gets locked in. The more George teaches me about his preferences as a horse, the less so called architecture I believe is really necessary to keep a horse happy, healthy, and comfortable.
