Hello Little Bear Community - Old and New!

From Betsey:
As Justus and I prepare to close this chapter of our lives, we would like to celebrate this amazing community that we have been so fortunate to sit at the center of over the last 20 years. We have loved being a part of this wonderful, gigantic family. Thank you for sharing your kids and your lives with us. We will carry you with us in our hearts and hope you will do the same.

We will be celebrating the end of an era (and celebrating the friendships nurtured throughout the years) by holding one last POT-LUCK!

When: Saturday, August 28th from 12:00pm-2:00pm
Where: The lawn next to the playground at Ocean View Park - close to LBS 🙂

What can I bring? Glad you asked! Please sign up to bring something here. Feel free to bring park blankets, soccer balls, etc., too. The party will be outside, but with how tenacious the Delta variant is, you're encouraged to wear a mask (especially for everyone who is not vaccinated) and stay home if you're feeling sick.

To Our Dear Little Bear Family,

The last year and a half have been hard on everyone. Directly or indirectly, this pandemic has affected all of us. Little Bear School was not spared. We were closed from March of 2020 through January of 2021. Between the almost year-long closure, a mix up with the bank, and the reduced enrollment, we just can’t keep up with mortgage and loan payments for our big, beautiful building at 327 Capitol.

The building is on the market. Initially, we thought we had six months to a year to figure out our next steps, but yesterday, our realtors advised us that we should plan to be out by Labor Day. We will be open the rest of July and August, and plan to close our doors for good on August 27th.

Betsey is currently in Florida caring for her father who fell ill with cancer earlier this year and Justus is at the school running a summer camp. Please let us know if there’s any time, moving materials, or money that you can donate during this transition time.

For those who don’t know her, Patricia Finnegan is Justus Brazelton’s mom and the founder of Little Bear School. A few years ago, she decided to go back to school. She just completed her Masters Degree.

Better Late: Patricia Finnegan has the life experience to make the most of her developmental psychology degree Patricia Finnegan has been a utility worker and a preschool director. Now she’s conducting research on autism as “an array of traits and behaviors over a range of intensities.”
