Maintaining an equal work/life balance all the time is impossible, so let your scales sway, and don’t be afraid of extremes. If we take a snapshot of this month. Maybe there will be some weeks where we have more fun and other weeks where we work more! This is the way things flow. Let it be! It’s easy to beat ourselves up thinking we have not worked hard enough one week or not made the most of our free time another, but in reality, we’ll see that we’re doing a pretty fine job if we zoom out and look at the overall picture. Balance is not about evening out everything. Balance also should not be confused with reaching some ultimate equilibrium. There is no static point in life; life is inherently dynamic. We are constantly balancing ⚖️
As a leadership competency, balance is about the choices leaders make for their personal sense of creating flow, but it is also about the impact of their leadership. The choices leaders make lead to more balance or less for the team and organization, and in the process they become the visible creators and models for how choices are made in that culture. The degree to which there is consistent flow is s direct reflection of their leadership.
