Last week we had the lovely opportunity to have the founders of Brava with us through a virtual Juneteenth celebration where they shared with us about their growing start-up and also provided some great advice to students who are thinking of starting their own company in the near future.
Brava is a company that makes it easy for companies to support Black-owned businesses. Through Brava, you can purchase digital gift cards to local Black-owned restaurants for your employees, partners, and/or clients.

We’ve got a new puzzle for you - can you solve it?

I have three special four-sided dice. They have one letter on each side.
When I roll them together I get three random letters which I try to rearrange into a word. In my eight goes so far I have made the words:
CAT, SON, POD, RIG, PEG, TAP, DIN, APE

A couple weeks ago, we celebrated the virtual graduation for the Make School Class of 2021! What a great event - it was amazing to look back at the memories the graduates have made during their time at Make School and the mark they have made on our community.
Thank you to all the people (staff, family, and friends) that were able to join and make this a special day for our graduates. We are truly proud of the things our students have already accomplished and are excited for the amazing impact they are poised to create in the future.
Once again CONGRATULATIONS TO THE CLASS OF 2021 🎉

We’ve got a new puzzle for you - can you solve it?
--------------
In front of you are several long fuses. You know they burn for exactly one hour after you light them at one end.
But the entire fuse does not burn at a constant speed. For example, it might take five minutes to burn through half the fuse and fifty-five minutes to burn the other half.
With your lighter and using these fuses, how can you measure exactly three-quarters of an hour of time?

"Make School has the narrowest gap between what is taught in college and what is done on a real world job. Things move fast and quality work will be expected of you. There will be lots of ups and downs. Remember to take a breath and think about how you can grow sequentially and take action on that. Set your own metrics for growth and measure them every month/quarter. Not grades, awards or some other recognition but your own metrics that measure your progress towards your individual goals. And most importantly, don’t forget to have fun."
~Abhishek Kulkarni, Graduating Class of 2021🎓
Abhishek had always been fascinated with the concept that if you wish to see something in the world, you can simply build it yourself. And this fascination found its path when he worked on a Cryptography Project in his Freshman year at Purdue. It paved a new path which led Abhishek to be interested in using Computation and Programming to build things for the world.
This path eventually led him to transfer to Make School. Utilizing the things he has learned previously and here, he has been able to start new side projects and even mentor Hackathons. Which has all allowed him to further find new ways to grow his fascination.
And using all these experiences, after graduation he will be joining .app, also a recent graduate of YCombinator, as a Software Engineer. All while also working on creating something new for engineering students in India.
Abhishek, we are more than proud of all you have accomplished here at Make School and we look forward to the things you will continue to build in the future as well💙
