Adoption Success Alert!

A critically endangered species, Po the Burmese Black Mountain Tortoise came to us as a surrendered pet in January 2026. Only 5 years old, Po will eventually fulfill her destiny as the largest tortoise species in mainland Asia, reaching over 100 pounds!

That meant finding not only a suitable but expert care giver, and, after reaching out to zoos and other institutions, we found him: Rich Spekner, a long time tortoise fan and former exotic pet store owner.

Rich owns a small-farm-turned-tortoise-sanctuary in the east bay, and was ecstatic to take in Po. He hopes to eventually breed more Burmese Black Mountain tortoises, combating the illegal animal trade and promoting the survival of this rare and endangered species.

Carbon Kids is back!

Join Tree Frog Treks and Mr. Science for an after-school adventure designed for curious middle schoolers who love exploring the outdoors!
Over 8 weekly sessions (August 27–October 15), participants will connect with each other, Animal Ambassadors, and our local San Francisco ecosystems as they develop confidence, leadership, and lasting friendships while connecting with the natural world and their local community.

Time: 3:45–6:15 PM
Meeting Location: Frog Hall 3835 Mission Street (3:45–4:00 PM)
Pickup: Holly Park Picnic Area (6:00–6:15 PM)
Grades: 5th–8th
Cost: $45 per day/ $360 per session
Group Size: Maximum 8 students

With a small group size and experienced Tree Frog Treks Naturalists, Carbon Kids offers a fun, active, and engaging way to connect with nature after school!

Animal Adoption Success Story Alert!

Quasimodo the Bearded Dragon has come a long way from humble beginnings; being found in Holly Park by an eagle-eyed neighbor, who then brought him into Tree Frog Treks.

Known as the Hunchback of Holly Park for his distinctive spinal ridge, Quasimodo was probably released intentionally and would not have survived long in the wild.

Just a month later, after capturing the hearts of tree froggers and the general public, Chloe swooped down from Humboldt to take him home with her forever. Chloe's former Beardie had a similar spinal ridge, so she was beyond ecstatic to adopt Quasimodo, who will live out his days munching mealworms and spreading joy.

Our intrepid campers spent the first two weeks of camp launching bottle rockets, playing banana tag, see-sawing on a log, storytelling, making new friends, digging in the dirt, interacting with our excellent animal ambassadors, and much more!

Meet your Summer 2026 Tree Frog team!

Our awesome educators convened in Lindley Meadow last week to learn what makes Tree Frog Treks special: connecting kids to the natural world through hands-on experience and self-directed learning, building connections, making friends, having fun in the sun, forging a lifelong bond with our shared native habitat!

Today marks the start of our 27th Summer of animal encounters, nature adventures, Wild Science, and Getting Out and Getting Dirty!

Due to the SFUSD school extension we have added a Holly Park based "Summer Kickoff" Full Day Camp (9am-5pm) for 1st-5th Graders, running from Thursday June 11th to Friday June 12th!

During each session campers will meet excellent animal ambassadors, perform science experiments, and Get Out and Get Dirty - guided by our trusted team of naturalists!

Registration opens tomorrow, Friday May 22nd at 9am!

Millie the Millipede, our fabulous troupe of Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches, and Moldy the Bearded Dragon showed off the spirit of Tree Frog Treks - Getting Out and Getting Dirty!
