COMMENTARY: Don’t make California’s young readers wait 04/01/2026

Decoding Dyslexia CA fought for years to pass the screening law, which is in its first year of implementation. Proposed changes to the statute will delay the identification and support that SB 114 was designed to deliver. Read this column from the chair of the screener selection panel, Dr. Young-Suk Kim. DDCA is part of a coalition of over 25+ orgs objecting to the added timing restrictions.

COMMENTARY: Don’t make California’s young readers wait California's proposed budget includes a delay of early literacy screening until the 91st day of school for kindergartners and the 46th day for first and second graders, which could delay the identification and support of struggling readers and hinder the implementation of literacy reforms.
