The Family Resource Center (FRC) at City College of San Francisco is a multi-cultural center with members from all backgrounds.
The FRC supports CCSF student parents by providing resources, a child-friendly computer lab, and a supervised child activity room for drop-in and the PEP Program (which gives free childcare while in class) We have been in operation for over 16 years serving all students, with a main emphasis on low income and CalWORKs parents. The FRC is open daily from 9:00am and 3:00pm and provides students with

Parents are often told to “connect before correcting.”
But timing matters.
When a child’s nervous system has moved into overwhelm, even the most validating words can feel like extra input their brain cannot process.
This is why connection can sometimes seem like it “isn’t working.”
In those moments, less language is often more effective.
What helps instead:
• reducing verbal input
• regulating your own nervous system first
• offering calm presence
• waiting until their brain is available for learning
Connection is not about saying the perfect thing.
It is about matching what their nervous system can receive in that moment.
