Sequential Artist Spotlight: Dave Fulton / Møtrik

New artist interview featuring the Prophet-6 desktop and Fourm:

Dave Fulton has been playing with synthesizers since the early 80’s and spent many of those years repairing them! With a primary focus on Berlin School EM, he plays electronic music with his band Dweller At The Threshold and composes darker ambient solo albums like 'Hard Particles' and 'Defective AI'.

Fourteen years ago he founded Møtrik, with drummer Lee Ritter quickly adding Cord Amato, Erik Golts and Jonah Nolde. To date the band has released four albums and two EP’s, and tours as frequently as their families and jobs allow.

"...I loved just about all of Dave Smith’s devices over the years and purchased many of them as I could afford them. Currently I use a Sequential Tom, Prophet-10, Prophet-5 Desktop, Prophet-6 Desktop, OB-6, Pro 2 and now the Fourm. The Prophet-6 desktop and the Fourm are in the live rig. The sound and MIDI implementation is consistent among the product line so it’s easy to program them. The Fourm duplicates the P5 sounds and is pretty aggressive and the P6 is kinda its own beast but has effects and the desktop version pairs neatly with the Fourm."

Sequential Artist Spotlight: Art School Girlfriend

London-based, Wrexham-raised artist and producer Art School Girlfriend (Polly Louise Mackey) recently released her third album ‘Lean In’ via Fiction Records. Armed with the freedom and space to experiment, ‘Lean In’ was self-produced in her own East London studio and sees Art School Girlfriend set to move from cult bedroom artist to one of the UK’s most vital artist/producers. Last year, Art School Girlfriend shared ‘LYATT’, a shoegaze and techno-tinged meditation on love quickly followed by ‘The Peaks’, which was recently added to the BBC Radio 6 Music playlist.

"Ten years ago, my self-produced demos found their way into the hands of Paul Epworth through one of his engineers, JHJ. I had never used an analogue synth before, I was making everything in the box in my bedroom. Paul had recently set up The Church Studios and his record label Wolf Tone. He invited me to use the studio on downtime and finish self-producing the demos. He was the first person who told me I could properly produce and those demos turned into my first EP. I got to use those studios for around 7 years in total, and during that time I graduated from bedroom producer to studio producer. There’s a whole section of Studio 1 called ‘synth city’ where all these incredibly historical synths are stacked up ready to go. There was an Oberheim Matrix 12 that I used all over my second EP, Into The Blue Hour. I also fell in love with the Dave Smith / Roger Linn collaboration drum synth Tempest, which I used for all the rhythms on my self-remixed EP. There was a Prophet 12 around for a while that was used heavily on my first album."

"The Prophet-6 and 12 were both really important in helping to shape the sound world of ‘Chambers’. I have a Prophet 12, which was great and inspiring during the initial writing and recording stages of this collection. My co-producer Chris Hyson has a Prophet-6, which became another invaluable tool for added sonic depth and richness in overdubs and post production. Just two of my absolute favourite keyboards, and I love what they brought to this music.”

New Take 5 programs 'Dust Takes' available from Jogging House:

"As the name implies, the presets lean towards a nostalgic, dreamy, lofi and atmospheric sound, but you can use them in any gerne.

All sounds have a fully mapped mod matrix to generate lots of subtle movement. So when you hold a key down for a while, there usually is something happening over time.

There are expressive controls mapped on each sound. Turning the mod wheel, applying pressure/aftertouch or playing the keys with different velocities will affect the sounds.

Each preset also has two effects dialed in to enhance what makes it special."

Growing up in south London, British-Bengali musician Tara Lily has a unique perspective on music and global culture. She has spent her life absorbing a multitude of sounds and genres from her surroundings, ranging from electronica to trip hop, jazz and Indian soundscape.

Sequential Artist Spotlight: Camilo Sánchez / Monokoi

New artist interview featuring the Prophet-6: Camilo Sánchez is a Colombian artist, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer based in Los Angeles. Sánchez has collaborated with artists including Latin Grammy and Grammy winners like Manuel Medrano, Diamante Eléctrico, Walt Anderson of Kool & The Gang, and Mireya Ramos of Flor de Toloache. His musical journey has taken him to stages across the Americas, Australia, and Europe, including Coachella, Vive Latino, Austin City Limits, Estéreo Picnic, and Cosquín Rock.

Monokoi is Sánchez’s solo project, where Latin rooted sounds meet alternative soul-pop, R&B, and analog experimentation. His forthcoming debut album, Geometría del Universo, features eleven songs written and produced entirely by Sánchez. The new single “Planetas,” created around the sonic world of the Prophet-6, is out on all platforms, ahead of the album’s release on October 1, 2026.

We chatted with Camilo on how the Prophet-6 was used in his music:

“Sequential has been present in my productions since I first started working with the Tempest. Today, the Prophet-6 is my go-to, an essential part of my studio and one of the first instruments I reach for when I want to explore a new sonic direction.

Almost every synthesizer sound on my new Monokoi single, “Planetas,” was recorded with the Prophet-6. I used it for pads, a sequenced and panned arpeggio, melodic leads, layered synth basses, atmospheric sounds, and subtle textures. Some parts were doubled, while others were processed through analog pedals and additional effects to push the original sounds into entirely different spaces."
