During , the power of education, cultural connection and community comes to life through the story of John Omernik, MBA ’95, MA ’01.

When Omernik began studying Spanish in high school, he never imagined it would shape the course of his life. Decades later, that curiosity has grown into The Little Spanish English School, a nonprofit providing bilingual, bicultural education to children in Mexico.

“I was the student,” Omernik says of his time teaching English. “The students taught me so much. They even corrected my Spanish.”

Today, students who once received empowerment and support from Omernik have become leaders who are investing back into their own communities.

USF’s Class of 2030 boasts 1,577 students, one of the largest classes in the university’s history. Our newest students earned an average GPA of 3.68 in high school, and 40 percent are First Generation. Our new class includes students who:

Fifty-five high school students converged on the Hilltop this summer, eager to learn how Wall Street works.

“Wall Street Academy teaches financial literacy, explains financial markets, and introduces students to investing. We cover a broad range of topics, from the basics of stocks and bonds to global financial markets.” - Tim Rasmussen MBA ’13, director of the Silk Family Investment Institute and co-founder of Wall Street Academy

For five days in June and five days in July, two cohorts of students came to campus from as far away as Hong Kong and from as near as San Francisco.

They worked in the Investment Lab with FactSet and Bloomberg Terminal, the software tools that finance professionals use, and they visited the offices of BlackRock and J.P. Morgan in downtown San Francisco.

Four-time NBA champion Stephen Curry returned to the Hilltop for the largest in-person Silk Speaker Series event to date.

Joined by filmmaker Ben Proudfoot, CEO and founder of Breakwater Studios, and Erick Peyton, CEO of Unanimous Media, Curry reflected on storytelling, leadership and the enduring legacy of Clarence B. Jones, co-founder of USF’s Institute for Nonviolence and Social Justice.

In Princeton Review’s The Best 392 Colleges: 2027 Edition, USF rates among the top 15 percent of the country’s four-year colleges. The Princeton Review surveyed current USF students and reported what they said about academics, campus life, and student life.

On academics: "Talented, well-educated, hardworking, and passionate professors” lead “interesting, engaging classes that are small.”

On campus life: The USF campus is a “welcoming second home for all of its students,” in a “beautiful location” that makes it easy to explore “the ultimate city to be in as a young person.”

On student life: At USF, students come together “in one of the best cities in the world” to form “a culturally diverse community that teaches respect, dignity, and honor for all individuals.”
