What an honor to partner with the San Francisco Alliance of Black School Educators, the San Francisco Agency for Human Rights, and the Office of Mayor to bring the UCAN Historically Black Colleges and Universities College Fair to our scholars!

The energy in the room was incredible. Students connected with HBCUs from across the nation, and so many walked away with college offers and scholarship opportunities.

Watching doors open right before their eyes was powerful. ❤️

Congratulations, scholars! We look forward to celebrating your continued success and supporting opportunities for you to thrive.

We kicked off the 2026-27 school year by bringing our Mastering Cultural Identity Facilitators together for collaboration and preparation for the year ahead.

Deep appreciation to Kingmakers of Oakland for their expert facilitation of the Crown’s curriculum and for continuing to pour into our educators like only you can!

And a special shoutout to AAALI’s own Glenn Bell for his leadership, commitment, and care in bringing it all together.

Our educators are ready. Our scholars are waiting. Let’s go! ✊🏾

The AAALI Summer Learning Lab is off to an incredible start.

Each day, we welcome outstanding members of our community into our morning Harambee Ceremony. Our guests participate in our daily Read Aloud, sharing the gift of literacy and the power of words with our scholars.

The Read Aloud is a core component of the Children's Defense Fund’s Freedom School model, and we have the privilege of witnessing its magic every single day.

We’ve been blessed to welcome leaders such as Ay'Anna Moody, Laura Dudnick, Dr. Vincent Matthews, Enikia Ford Morthel, Monette Benitez, M.Ed., Crystal Hawkins, and Emma Dunbar.

Our children have been encouraged, inspired, and reminded that greatness lives within their own community.

Before there is a graduate, a leader, a lawyer, a doctor, an engineer, or even another teacher, there is an educator. An educator who sees potential before the world does. An educator who nurtures brilliance, affirms identity, and helps shape futures filled with possibility.

There are a lot of ways educators could spend their summers, but teachers across the district are choosing all gas, no brakes. They are choosing our scholars.

Yesterday was the first day of our AAALI Summer Learning Lab. More than 40 educators were on site to welcome scholars and launch five weeks of literacy, STEM exploration, identity development, and joyful learning. It was a beautiful sight to see.

I’ll celebrate our scholars in a future post, but today I want to recognize the brilliance, commitment, and excellence of our educators.

To every educator who chose to spend part of your summer investing in our children, thank you. 🙏🏾
