This is a beautiful coming out story. 🌈 This is the second of two podcasts I participated in for this series, and there are more on their way by my brave and beautiful, fellow This Naked Mind Certified Coaches. I'd love to hear your thoughts again in the comments or DM me... Drinking less alcohol and/or becoming alcohol free is a revolutionary act in our booze worshiping world. At heart, it's a social justice movement supporting people in transforming their lives, and getting more and more free; what ever that means for them! The sober curious movement is so exciting as more and more people are questioning, not what might be wrong with them, but rather would the quality of our lives be better if we drank less alcohol, or possibly not at all? How incredible that this awakeing to our self love and truth is so paralleled with the coming out experience of those who are LGBTQ+. Maybe like my brave client and I, you'll laugh and cry! Enjoy!

I've been working on this blog post for a while. I'd love feedback if you're so inclined, either here or in a message. My plan is to work toward a memoir, maybe a q***r "quit lit" that includes punk rock salvation, memories of the early AIDS crises and a search for "God" through chanting, Tarot, and dance. Thanks for taking the time those of you that like readin! ❤

Turns out “merry and bright” is more achievable without the toxic sludge and hangziety of booze! Who knew?! We do!
My journey started with The Live 30 Day Alcohol Experiment in 2020 and it woke me up out of the booze matrix. It was by no means a straight line, but now I can say, I have absolutely no interest in drinking. None. Living alcohol free is just too amazing.
I’m excited to be mentoring in the upcoming January experiment ! Hope to see some of you there.
Happy Holidays everyone! And remember if you are drinking, you’re just getting the data points, information, and clarity that leads to more clarity ✨✨✨

Happy National Coming Out Day!!!
I was struck many times in my journey with how much my coming out as someone who struggled with alcohol, was like coming out with my struggle to be my authentic, q***r, gay self. I just wanted to live one truth, not two! And then when I chose to live alcohol free, in a world that worshiped booze, coming out with my truth has made me a bit of a freak, even a pereia in some circles. Sometimes even one who is no longer welcome and no longer invited to "the party".
I've seen so many straight folks come out for the first time in their lives with choosing to drink less or become alcohol free, and I think we in the q***r community have a lot to offer each other and them!
Honey, we've been there, done that, hated it, and then LOVED IT! Because aint nothin better than living in LOVE and your AUTHENITIC TRUTH, even when this crazy world calls you crazy. Because you know, like the old Cheryl Lynn, R&B Disco song sings, "...IT'S GOT TO BE REAL!" Coming out is being real!!!
So weather you have come out or are in the process of coming out with whatever your truth may be, we are all here for each other. We were put in the closets of lies, shame and blame by community; and only through community can we break those bars of ignorance, manipulation, greed, hate...and escape and be liberated! Coming out is choosing LOVE and choosing truth and wisdom. Let's come out together.

I'm enjoying making these memes that hopefully contradicts all the big booze marketing we've been fed in obvious and underhanded ways. I know it's a drop in the bucket, but we ultimately do what we feel good about doing; and what we think and believe has everything to do with that. Big Alcohol LOVES the q***r community because so much of our culture has relied on the bar scene for safety. But that can change! Our revolution may have started with a bar (Stonewall) but we don't have to stay there! The whole point was to break out of the jail we were in!

Love this quote by ! So many of us who are q***r use alcohol and other drugs to deal with all the conflicts and challenges we experience in allowing our inner and outer worlds match. Talk about cognitive dissonance! But we live in a world that attempts to tell us, even force, who are supposed to be. And it can be scarry, even dangerous, to rebel and just be us. At first, drugs and alcohol can feel like a tool to get relief from this pressure, a strategy that helps us align with the lie. A way to give up and not care. But the heart won't have it! The heart will keep beating the soul's truth, and we one day will have to choose between the lie and continued self-destruction or allowing our inner gorgeous blooming to surface! Like q***r author Anais Nin says in her famous quote, “And the time came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.”

We who are q***r often drink so that we can fit into a world we feel others think we don't belong in. F**k that s**t! Be yourself, and let the world reform itself around fabulous, q***r YOU. If they gotta medicate so they can make physical, mental and emotional space for YOU, let 'em. We don't need a highly toxic, highly addictive, class 1a carcinogenic neurotoxic beverage to be truly who we are! We are free to be you and me! Like Quentin, the trail blazing, nonconformist gender bender, we can get high on your own supply! We can love and embrace all of who we are and hide none of it. Quentin Crisp felt bad for people who had to drink in order to be themselves. Why should they? Crisp was a gender bending, gender fluid, opinionated, hilarious queen every minute and every hour of his life. He knew he was a gift from the Universe. He couldn't help but be his fabulous, dandy self. And that can be true for you too however you feel and express! It can take great courage to be yourself, but we don't need booze to do so! Just honesty and delight into how amazing we truly are!
(If you haven't read "The Naked Civil Servant" or "How To Become a Virgin" treat yourself to these hilarious, moving, inspiring page turners).

… and then when those sorrows found me, I had a freaking hangover.
Learning to hold and nurture my emotions like I would my only child, with curiosity and compassion, has been a challenge. But you know what? My inner sissy q***r boy needed/needs lots of attention and acceptance and even reverence!
My feelings don’t deserve to be numbed, and drowned. They deserve to be listened to, wrestled with, embraced and released. And then they move and flow. And I clearly go stronger and often happier. That just didn’t happen all those years I self medicated.
