We are proud to celebrate Senior Raizel Mahgel-Friedman on being named a recipient of the Emerging Scholars Award from Yeshivat Maharat.

This prestigious scholarship honors high school senior women who demonstrate exceptional commitment to leadership, spirituality, and Torah learning as they prepare to spend a gap year studying in Israel. Through her thoughtful leadership, deep curiosity, and dedication to Jewish learning, Raizel embodies the values this award seeks to recognize and uplift.

We were honored to perform at .bayarea Creating Hope Gala on Thursday night. Shalom Bayit works to build safe and healthy Jewish communities by supporting survivors of domestic violence and raising awareness through education, advocacy, and prevention.

JCHS students performed “Harmony in the Home,” a song derived from a quote by Confucius that found its way to us through Eden Village West’s songbook. Its message of safety, dignity and support felt especially meaningful for the evening. Thank you to Shalom Bayit for inviting us to be part of such a moving and hopeful night.

Ms Rozenblum’s Hebrew V class is completing a unit on memory. They’ve explored ways to commit objects, people, and events to memory: writing a diary, keeping artifacts, excavating archeological sites, and creating a time capsule. Today the class visited the Transamerica Building lobby to see the time capsule from 1974 that was unearthed there. Students watched the movie, and got to see the pictures and the many documents that were curated for future generations. What would you include in a time capsule?

Letting go to move forward 🔥
Burn what you don’t need. Carry what matters.

At our Lag B’Omer bonfire, seniors came together to mark the end of one chapter and the beginning of the next—releasing what no longer serves them and making space for what’s ahead. From test scores to rejection letters, seniors tossed them into the fire marking a meaningful way to close this part of their journey.

Have you ever felt your roots through music?

As a teen, Yoni Battat set out to reconnect with his Iraqi Jewish heritage—and it became a lifelong journey.

This morning he came to JCHS and shared music from his album “Fragments,” blending Hebrew, Arabic, English, and Yiddish in a powerful exploration of migration, memory, and identity. He also shared the personal stories behind the music.

Yasher Koach to the JCHS Model UN and Debate team! This afternoon they welcomed Jewish Day School students from around the Bay Area for a Model UN and debate workshop that helped develop skills for middle schoolers, AND was a heckuva lot of fun! Do you know a 6th or 7th grade student who would be interested in knowing about any future workshops? Tell them to DM us!

brings together Jewish Israeli, Palestinian, and American college students for facilitated dialogue and a chance to have authentic conversations about difficult topics with each other. After screening a documentary about their work, last week we were excited to be joined live on Zoom by some Middle Meets participants, and the film’s director for a unique and inspiring opportunity to hear directly from the people behind the conversations.

“Every life has its kernel, its hub, its epicentre, from which everything flows out, to which everything returns.”

The AP Lit and Theatre students were at to see the stunning production of “Hamnet” last week, based on Maggie O’Farrell sweeping book. Thank you to Summergate for making this possible and for continuing to deepen our students’ appreciation of Shakespeare every year.
