To celebrate the end of the semester, the Taiwan Center for Mandarin Learning (TCML) hosted a Chinese Marketplace, giving adult learners the opportunity to use Mandarin in a fun, real-life setting.
Each class set up a booth, and students used play money to practice shopping, asking prices, bargaining, and making purchases all in Mandarin. Taking turns as vendors and customers, they confidently used everyday expressions while interacting with classmates.
For many students who have few opportunities to speak Chinese outside the classroom, this hands-on activity transformed what they had learned into meaningful communication. The marketplace was filled with laughter, teamwork, and cultural exchange as students practiced their language skills and built new friendships.
The event was a wonderful reminder that language is more than words, it is a bridge to communication, culture, and friendship.
