It is with great pleasure that the Department of Audiology announces the promotion of Dr. Jiong “Joe” Hu to Professor.

Dr. Hu joined the University of the Pacific in 2015 as a member of the inaugural faculty at the rank of Assistant Professor. He was subsequently promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 2021. Dr. Hu teaches across the Au.D. curriculum while mentoring students in both academic and research settings. His research spans auditory electrophysiology and neurosciences, hearing technology, hearing conservation, and clinical education, resulting in numerous peer-reviewed publications, invited presentations, book chapters, internally and externally funded research. In addition to his teaching and scholarly achievements, Dr. Hu has also served as the Graduate Coordinator, Director of Clinical Education and Vice Chair of the Department, overseeing the academic affairs and clinical education of the Doctor of Audiology program, while also serving as chairs and members of the School and University committees and taskforces.

Dr. Hu has been instrumental and integral to the success and identity of UOP Audiology since its inception. He exemplifies excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service, and his commitment to student success continues to strengthen our students and alumni community.

This past week, recent UOP Audiology graduates Drs. Miani Sumida miani and Ebony Rivera Ebony Rivera , and externs Vicky Le Vicky Le and Melissa Wun Melissa Wun , participated in an Audiology Clinical Exchange Program at the Nanjing Women and Children's Healthcare Hospital in Nanjing, China.

These University of the Pacific School of Health Sciences students travelled with the Director of our SF clinic SF UOP Audiology Clinic Dr. Julia Chung and the Department Vice Chair Dr. Joe Hu., and were embedded in the local clinical team in their daily patient care services. Through immersive exposure in a high-volume, hospital-based setting and under the supervision of Pacific’s faculty, local licensed audiologists and medical professionals, our students observed and engaged in pediatric hearing assessments and treatments, participated in research activities, and experienced family-centered care while learning alongside our international colleagues.

This unique experience provided our students with exposure to diverse clinical and research practices and patient populations, helped foster cross-cultural and international professional collaboration and broadened their global perspective on hearing health care delivery.

They provided hearing screening, education on hearing protection and other related services to the teammembers of the Golden State organization.

Cohort 2027 Externships!!

CO 2027 have passed their Year Two Degree Candidacy Exams and are in their last trimester on campus.

They are on their ways to externships!

Every year, UOP AUD students apply for and secure highly competitive externship sites nationally, where they will apply their knowledge and skills caring for patients for a whole year. This is the last step in the doctoral program and they are ready!
