Summer CIT Program | MusicArt&Adventure During camp, they assist counselors in conducting art activities, leading hikes, playing group games, and supporting music making with the campers. 

A little about our camp story...

When I (Emily) first moved in San Francisco over 15 years ago, I was coming from snowy, cold upstate New York. I found the weather confusing and frustrating at first- months of rain followed by drought and relentlessly foggy and cold summer days.

Getting outside first as a camp counselor in 2015, and for the past 5 summers as MAA Camp Director, I have learned that even on a gloomy August day, the sand at Baker Beach is somehow warm. The fog can actually be quite refreshing after a game of tag at Mountain Lake Park. And little valleys like El Polin Spring create protected habitat for hummingbirds and coyotes. Making friendship bracelets at Crissy Field can be totally engrossing and make you forget the wind (a jacket helps, too!), and kids seem immune to the cold, so many running around in shorts and a t-shirt on a cool San Francisco day.

I am so grateful to be able to run camp here in the Presidio, our own National Park, where the land is allowed to retain its unique qualities of sand, arroyo willows, coyote brush, silvery lupine, redwoods and serpentine soils. It's a rarity in such a big city, and something to be treasured.
