Pinkcareers

Pinkcareers Conventional wisdom says that women hit a “glass ceiling” that prevents them from reaching positions of leadership.

Ex-Amazon hiring manager helping ambitious women quit underselling themselves and land $300k+ Manager/Staff/Director roles they love | Executive Career Coach | HBR Advisor | Investor | Clients at Amazon/Meta/Apple/Microsoft But according to McKinsey and LeanIn.org, the biggest obstacle women face is the step up from entry-level position to manager or the “broken rung”. Once women fall behind on their first promotion, it’s a catch-up game from there – both in terms of career advancement and their confidence to see themselves as a leader. What would be possible if early in their careers, women had access to the tools and coaching that have traditionally been available to only senior executives? And at a fraction of the cost?

Richa Bansal's toddler would not wear a shirt, until she stopped forcing one and offered two.

In a recent training inside The Fearless Hire, Richa Bansal explained how that same trick works in salary negotiations. Instead of asking a company for one number, present two full packages that both get you where you want to be, and let them choose. It turns a tense conversation into a collaborative one.

This is one of the most misunderstood interview questions.
ㅤ
“Do you handle pressure well?”
ㅤ
Most candidates treat it like a yes/no question.
ㅤ
It’s not.
ㅤ
Because hiring managers are not evaluating your stress tolerance.
ㅤ
They’re evaluating how you operate under pressure.
ㅤ
There’s a big difference.
ㅤ
When you say “Yes”… you sound generic, unproven and forgettable.
ㅤ
Strong candidates don’t claim. They demonstrate.
ㅤ
Instead, say something like:
ㅤ
“I’ve worked in high-pressure environments where timelines were tight and priorities shifted quickly. For example, [brief scenario]. What helped me stay effective was prioritizing clearly, communicating early, and focusing on the highest-impact outcomes.”
ㅤ
Now you’re not just answering…you’re showing how you think.
ㅤ
That’s what signals leadership.
ㅤ
This is exactly why so many brilliant women get overlooked.
ㅤ
They give safe, surface-level answers… instead of showing depth, ownership, and decision-making.
ㅤ
And under pressure, they default to being concise… instead of being strategic.
ㅤ
That’s exactly why I built the SOARR™️ framework.
ㅤ
It helps you turn everyday experiences into structured, high-impact answers that hiring managers remember.
ㅤ
So you don’t just sound capable… you sound like the person they trust in high-stakes situations.

Growing up, money was never discussed in Richa Bansal's household. Just work hard and good things will happen.

In a recent training inside The Fearless Hire, Richa Bansal explained how that upbringing shapes so many women years into their careers, creating a scarcity mindset that makes the first offer feel too risky to negotiate. She has coached over 500 women and sees the same pattern again and again.

Most candidates think hiring managers are carefully reading every bullet…
ㅤ
They’re not, they’re scanning and in the first 5–10 seconds, they’re asking one question:
ㅤ
“Does this person operate at the level we’re hiring for?”
ㅤ
Not:
ㅤ
❌ How many tools you’ve used
❌ How many certifications you have
ㅤ
But:
ㅤ
→ Scope
→ Ownership
→ Business impact
ㅤ
That’s it…
ㅤ
If your resume doesn’t show:
ㅤ
→ What you owned
→ The scale you operated at
→ The outcomes you drove
ㅤ
You get filtered out instantly, this is why so many high-achieving women get overlooked.
ㅤ
Not because they lack experience, because they’re presenting it like executors, not leaders.
ㅤ
If you want to learn how to answer questions like this at a leadership level and land $200K–$500K roles…

You will always undersell yourself until you fix one belief first.

In a recent training inside The Fearless Hire, Richa Bansal, founder of Pink Careers, explained that negotiation does not start with the recruiter's first question, it starts with mindset. Her rule for every client: walk into any offer believing the company is lucky to have you. Skip that step and you will always feel pressure to take the first number handed to you.

This question quietly filters out senior candidates.
ㅤ
Most people answer it like they’re trying to be liked, calm tone, vague reassurance, empty confidence.
ㅤ
But hiring managers aren’t listening for composure.
ㅤ
They’re listening for how you operate when stakes are high and strong candidates don’t say “yes, I handle pressure well.”
ㅤ
They demonstrate judgment, prioritization, and control.
ㅤ
Here’s what I teach my clients to say instead:
ㅤ
“In high-pressure situations, I focus on clarifying priorities, aligning on what actually matters, and making trade-offs early. That’s how I keep decisions moving without creating unnecessary risk.”
ㅤ
This signals leadership without sounding rehearsed, defensive, or emotional.
ㅤ
It shows you don’t just survive pressure, you manage it.
ㅤ
This is how candidates shift from “capable employee” to a clear leadership signal in seconds.
ㅤ
If interviews still feel random, or you’re doing everything “right” but not getting offers…
ㅤ

Two clients stopped building their pipeline once interviews were lined up. Neither one got the offer.

In a recent training inside The Fearless Hire, Richa Bansal explained why she tells every client the same thing: keep feeding your pipeline until day one of the new job. Roles close, background checks stall, and locations do not work out, often for reasons that have nothing to do with performance.

If you are an ambitious woman who is done feeling stuck despite doing everything right, join my free masterclass “Recession-Proof Your Career.” Learn the strategies and my exclusive SOARR framework you can use to land $300K+ manager/staff/director roles.

DM me “CAREER” for details.

If you’re preparing for a Manager, Staff or Director interview in tech, don’t memorize 25 random STAR stories.

Prepare a small number of high-value stories that prove you are operating at the next level.

Here are 5 stories I’d have ready:

1️⃣ Your biggest business impact

What problem did you solve?

Why was this problem worth solving?

What changed because of you?

What was the quantifiable business impact?

2️⃣ A time you influenced a major decision without authority

Who disagreed?

What did they care about?

How did you bring them along?

3️⃣ A high-stakes decision you made with incomplete information

Senior leaders rarely get perfect data.

Show your judgment under ambiguity.

4️⃣ A failure or decision you got wrong

What did you misjudge?

What did you learn?

How did it change the way you lead?

5️⃣ A problem you identified before anyone assigned it to you

You saw the problem.

Created clarity.

Aligned stakeholders.

Drove the outcome.

The strongest leadership interview stories show:

Problem → Stakes → Judgment → Influence → Impact

👉 Save this before your next leadership interview.

👉 If you want my exact interview framework that has helped 400+ women land $300K+ leadership roles in tech, comment CAREER and I’ll send you the link to my free masterclass.

Inside, I break down:

→ How to choose the right leadership stories for Manager, Staff and Director interviews

→ How to structure those stories using the SOARR™️ interview method so hiring managers remember them

→ How to show judgment, influence and business impact without sounding rehearsed 👇

If you keep rambling in leadership interviews, your experience may not be the problem.

Your storytelling framework might be.

Most candidates are taught to use the STAR method:

Situation.
Task.
Action.
Result.

But for Senior Manager, Director and VP interviews, STAR can keep you too focused on ex*****on.

You end up explaining:

→ What task you were assigned
→ What actions you took
→ What happened next

And you can sound much more junior than you actually are.

That’s why we teach our clients the SOARR©️ Storytelling Framework:

S — Situation
Set the business context.

O — Obstacle
Explain the complexity, risk or challenge.

A — Action
Show the decisions YOU made, how you influenced others and how you led.

R — Result
Quantify the business impact.

R — Reflection
Show what you learned and how the experience shaped your leadership.

But knowing the framework isn’t enough.

One of the biggest parts of the interview prep we do with our clients is documenting their career history in depth— wins, failures, conflicts, transformations, difficult decisions and leadership moments.

Then we practice using those experiences across multiple interview scenarios with SOARR.

So when the interview comes, you’re not trying to memorize 25 perfect answers.

You know your stories. You know your impact. And you know how to communicate at the level of the role you want.

Recruiters and hiring managers are struggling just as much as candidates right now.

In a recent training inside The Fearless Hire, Richa Bansal called 2026 a low hire, low fire market. Approvals are harder to get, recruiting teams are understaffed, and some companies are shifting budget toward AI instead of hiring more people, which trickles straight down to candidates.
