I am pleased to report that Congressman Mike Levin (D-San Juan Capistrano) recently introduced legislation to rename the San Diego VA Medical Center after Jennifer Moreno. Representative Levin was considering other worthy veterans who paid the ultimate sacrifice, but chose Jennifer; due in large part to the testimony that some of you provided.

Bill Proposes to Rename SD VA Medical Center After Fallen Hero Jennifer Moreno - Times of San Diego Rep. Mike Levin, D-San Juan Capistrano, introduced legislation Tuesday to rename the San Diego Veterans Affairs Medical Center after Army Capt. Jennifer Moreno, a decorated combat veteran from San Diego killed in action during a deployment to Afghanistan in October 2013.

I am reaching out to SDHS AJROTC Alumni who were in the program with Jennifer Moreno so that they can provide first-person information about the kind of person Jennifer was. If you weren’t close to Jennifer, please pass this information along to someone who was.

U.S. Army Captain Jennifer Moreno is one of two combat veterans under consideration to have the Veteran’s Administration Medical Facility in La Jolla renamed in their honor. Renaming the hospital requires the approval of Congress, and Congressman Mike Levin is leading the effort. Rep. Levin’s point person and Chairman of the advisory panel is Karin Brennan, a U.S. Army veteran.

Ms. Brennan has collected all official documents on Jennifer’s life and the events that led to her final combat mission, and has spoken to Jennifer’s family. However, she needs to speak to people who knew Jennifer as a person. Why was she successful in school and AJROTC? What motivated Jennifer to pursue a medical education/career? What drove her sense of patriotism? Why would someone risk their life while under fire to help another in need? What made Jennifer unique? Any first-person information, stories, or insights would be appreciated.

Getting a major VA medical facility renamed after someone isn’t easy. Ms. Brennan needs a lot of information showing the Jennifer’s memory is worthy of the honor. Ms. Brennan would like everyone to know that all conversations are confidential within the panel she chairs and the Congressman.
