📚MINI LESSON: How does the famous Meisner repetition exercise work?

Well first it’s important to note that repetition is Meisner’s most utilized tool because it teaches the foundational aspects of LISTENING and RESPONDING truthfully (which are foundational to great acting) 🎭

Here it is broken down into steps:

1️⃣ Put your attention on the other person and make an observation out loud

example: “you’re wearing glasses”

2️⃣ The other person will then repeat the phrase exactly, but worded from their own point of view

example: “I’m wearing glasses”

3️⃣ This will then be repeated back and forth until a new observation comes up organically

example: someone starts laughing because of the silliness of the back and forth repetition after awhile, and then the partner says something like “You’re laughing” or “You’re amused”

4️⃣ This process continues and further develops for a while until the teacher decides to stop the exercise

Important things to keep in mind when doing repetition:

⭐️ It’s all about the behavioral changes you observe in partner and yourself
⭐️ The words should naturally shift to reflect what’s TRUTHFULLY happening
⭐️ Don’t force emotion or changes in repetition
⭐️ Stay in the moment and let the moments add up
