Ecuador slaps you in the face with a juxtaposition of sublime volcano views and elegant hummingbirds one moment and pen*s-shaped lollipops the next moment. Take a selfie inside a giant gorilla mouth, a whole theme park based off of dragon ball z and party buses blasting explicit reggaeton full of kids driving up a steep ass cloudforest mountain. That’s part of the fun. Welcome to Ecuador.

This is the top of a canopy tower where you could be birding and nature journaling with me in July. For ten days we will explore a spectrum of ecosystems in Ecuador from the Andes mountains down to the Amazon rainforest. From Andean condors and sword-billed hummingbirds to pink river dolphins and toucans. From Morpho butterflies and leaf-cutter ants to giant stick bugs, howler monkeys, and piranhas. The trip winds down at a luxurious hot springs resort surrounded by mountains, cloudforest, and mind-blowing avian diversity. Just wait until you see the sketchbook you come home with!
