We were lucky enough today to see the lion dance in celebration of Lunar New Year, hosted by the ! Celebrating the year of the rabbit 🐇(and in Vietnam, the year of the cat 🐈 ), the lion dance has a long tradition that started in China and spread throughout Asia, developing into unique performance styles depending on the country. Today's performance began with a somber note, a moment of silence following the tragic events in Monterey Park. The is hosting a healing space from 5-7 PM today and our hearts go out to all of those affected by this senseless act of violence.

This Sunday, January 22 is Lunar New Year! An important celebration in China, Vietnam, South Korea and other countries in the region, Lunar New Year was declared to be a state holiday last year here in California. While it may be celebrated slightly differently in each country (in Vietnam, this year's Tết is the year of the Cat rather than the Rabbit), it's a celebration of the new moon and fresh opportunities. Happy Lunar New Year to all who celebrate 🎉 !
