Today, innocence advocates and Innocence have secured a resentencing and release for their client, Wesner Charles, Jr. Mr. Charles has served 22 years of a life sentence for a crime he did not commit. Cal-IA and CWSL’s Innocence Clinic students are students are continuing to seek his exoneration and a finding of innocence.

We're excited to announce that we've written a paper that will be published in the Texas Intellectual Property Law Journal's Spring issue! Written by Art Neill, James Thomas (California Western School of Law 3L) & Erika Lee, the article focuses on the application of copyright law to the training of textual generative AI. We're looking forward to sharing more about this work in the coming months. Stay tuned!

California Western is thrilled to host Harvard Professor, The New Yorker Essayist, and Pulitzer Prize winner Louis Menand for his talk "Bakke, Roots and Branches."

Prof. Menand's talk will be an address on the legacy of Regents of the University of California v Bakke, the seminal 1978 case that upheld race-based affirmative action programs in education, recently overturned by SFFA v Harvard.

Louis Menand is the Lee Simpkins Family Professor of Arts and Sciences and the Anne T. and Robert M. Bass Professor of English at Harvard University. He has contributed to The New Yorker since 1991, and has been a staff writer since 2001. His book The Metaphysical Club was awarded the 2002 Pulitzer Prize for history and the Francis Parkman Prize from the Society of American Historians. His book The Free World: Art and Thought in the Cold War was published in 2021 and named a notable book of the year by the The New York Times Book Review. In 2016, he was awarded the National Humanities Medal by President Barack Obama.

The Law Review is hosting a clothing drive to benefit the Third Avenue Charitable Organization. The recent rains and flooding have ruined the clothing and belongings of the unhoused in our community. This clothing drive aims to help replenish the stock of a free clothing service located just one block from our school. We are especially in need of men's pants and shoes! Anyone who donates between 11:00 - 1:00 PM on Wednesday, February 7th, will be given free pizza (while supplies last)!
