Sonic Lotus Yoga offers immersive experiences that blend yoga, sound healing, meditation, and breathwork into one profound journey.

Founded by Sophia, the practice is rooted in the belief that healing is available to all.

A year ago, I was unwell. Burned out and disillusioned.

I had spent so long pouring myself into academia that I lost touch with my body and my mind. It was time to make a scary change.

Not returning to the classroom felt wrong. Almost as if I was betraying someone. But even though it was not a simple decision, it was a necessary one.

I chose to step fully into the yoga and meditation space, and what I’ve found on the other side is not what you’d expect. It is certainly not some perfect, polished version of healing, but something deeper: alignment.

It is by no means a simpler path. But, it is a return. A return to what feels true. A return to work that nourishes instead of depletes. A return to the kind of spaces where people can soften, breathe, listen, and come home to themselves.

This path has asked me to trust myself in a whole new way. And somehow, even with all the unknowns, I feel more grounded than I did before. More confident in my ability to make a real impact. More devoted to creating experiences that are healing, intentional, and heart-focused.

These singing bowls hold so much meaning for me. They are more than instruments. They are part of this new chapter, this return, this journey.

A year later, I’m still becoming. Still learning. Still deepening. But I know I am exactly where I’m meant to be.

If you’ve been craving stillness, softness, and space to reconnect, I’d love to have you join me soon.

If you’re waiting for a sign, this is it. 💜

It’s time to breathe deeper. To move softer. To elevate higher.

You don’t have to do everything today. You don’t have to fix every problem. You don’t have to solve every issue.

You can be. You can be here. You can be here now.

We may disagree, and that’s okay, but I really do think these things matter.

What are your thoughts? 💭

The right vibe. The right tribe. ☮️

Our Meetup is free to join and our events are always donation-based.

Tomorrow we have our first ever Grief Workshop, co-led by Anani (they/them) at Tecolote Shores North.

We’ll begin with breathwork, then move into somatic rituals, and conclude with a sonic journey with crystal singing bowls, chimes, and more.

If you’re in need of a healing collective and this type of offering aligns with you, we hope to see you there!

These actions of self-love matter. They are the tiny seeds of healing, ready to sprout. 💚

How’s your breath right now? 😮‍💨

Just notice it without judgement; and see what begins to happen when you do notice it.

Maybe it starts to deepen.
Maybe you realize you were taking shallow breaths.
Maybe you were even holding your breath.

But now, you are taking intentional breaths. And your lungs seem to drink in the air as if they were thirsty.

In class, you’ll sometimes hear me say: “Find and follow your inhales and exhales.” Find and follow, as in locate them and identify them, then stay with the entirety of each.

See, what we’re doing here is letting the breath lead. We’re letting the breath guide. We’re setting it free.

Without controlling the breath at all, we’re just noticing every second of it, letting everything else fall to the sidelines of our perception, until all that is left is you breathing in the stillness.

If you start to feel dizzy, slow down. If you start to get fidgety, just fidget and come back to your stillness. If your mind wanders, let the breath pull you back at the right time.

Finding the time, even a short amount, to return to breathe can make a huge difference throughout the day, guiding you closer towards inner peace and deep healing.

Maybe I’ll leave the trends for the young hips😅

By the way, such a good time last Saturday at CorePower, Pacific Beach. It was an inspiration to see so many vibrant, local businesses coming together to share with the neighborhood.

I got the chance to not only be my silly self, but invite more people to join our amazing collective. It’s so important to remember how crucial community is, so I hope we’ll get to see new faces at the next gatherings.

Our next event is Sketch & Sound, hope to see you all there!

Peace is precious. Stillness is sacred. ☮️

What a lovely day at Tecolote Shores to meditate and breathe together! I’m always so inspired by this place. It’s truly a magical spot.

When I first started Sonic Lotus Yoga, I had no idea where “home” would be. Renting venues and leasing studio space can be a substantial cost! But, gathering on the grass near the water’s edge, breathing as a collective under the blue sky, and meditating with miles of open air all around us will always feel like home.

Don’t worry if you didn’t catch us this time around! We’re adding to May’s calendar, friends, so hope to see you soon.

Breathe in. Breathe out. ✨

Stay with your breath. Begin to surf it. Bring all your attention to your deep inhales and deep exhales. Notice your chest and belly rise on the inhale and fall on the exhale.

Now, place a hand on your heart and feel your heartbeat. Notice the rhythm and cadence. Notice what happens when you become aware of your heart.

Close your eyes and say to yourself (3 times), “I love myself unconditionally right now.”

Carry this sentiment with you. Wear this mantra like it’s a sacred ornament. Keep it on your lips. See it in your mind’s eye.

Re-ignite your self-love and keep that fire always burning.

Sending you lots of love and looking forward to seeing you all this Sunday for our meditation session!

May all beings everywhere be happy and free.

No mud, no lotus. 🧘🏻‍♀️

When I was a college professor, students would sometimes ask me why I thought the world is the way it is. Why is there so much struggle? Why do humans suffer? Why do we build structures that don’t ultimately support us?

Well, in the academic classroom, I was limited in how I could approach such profound conundrums. Though my spiritual belief system had an answer, my academic one did not. Turning the attention onto the student, I would politely ask them why they thought the world is the way it is. And they usually had some great responses: greed, racism, fear. I would then agree wholeheartedly, proud of their initial understandings of this reality, and move on from the topic. But these questions stuck with me; moreover, I felt as if I let the students down somehow, knowing I couldn’t really answer the question truthfully from my own esoteric lens.

All I wanted to tell these young people was that the struggle was a gift. The suffering, the heartache, the despair, all meant for something very, very specific. In fact, we engage in this practice often. We stress the muscles to make them stronger, we stretch the fascia to access more mobility, we practice falling off a skateboard again and again until…

Now, I cannot read the soul contracts to you anymore than I could translate Egyptian hieroglyphics, but I will tell you one thing: your pain, our pain, is a teacher.

Without the mud, the lotus cannot grow.

Thank you to all who joined our Self-Love Ceremony! ♥️

What a joy to guide you through this journey of self-compassion and self-care. We hope that the essential oils, yin and restorative yoga, and sound bath offered a nourishing experience for you all.

It’s not easy showing up for yourself. And from certain perspectives, taking the time for self-care may even seem indulgent or impossible. But, and this is coming from someone who has had burnout on several occasions in their life, self-care is crucial to surviving and thriving in this world!

So, allow this to be your gentle reminder to take care of yourself. To take a real hard look at your schedule and see if you can fit yourself in there somewhere. And if this is something that you already do on a regular basis, then keep it going. And, in fact, inspire others by showing them how to do it.

So, whether that means you take a nice long walk in the park, indulge in your favorite treat, or simply just give yourself a really authentic compliment, try to make it a habit, allowing these tiny acts of self-kindness to build into a strong foundation for your entire life to come.

Happy Valentine’s Day! ♥️
