On September 24th, we combined Coffee with the Principal with a Grandparents' Day celebration. Whether you missed it, or would just like to relive it, here are some photos from our day (we have a video, which we will post separately once we're done editing.) Families Of course McGill students would have wonderful families! Here are a few family members: Risk it All (Emiliano) This was the first of Emiliano's solos: Grandparents Song (TK/K) Our youngest students, pulling the smiles and the tears from us all: Umbrella (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th) A spirited performance by our middle grades: Como Yo Te Yamo (Emiliano) And Emiliano solos in Spanish: Volvere (5th Grade) Our fifth grade class performed next: L O V E (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th) The middle grades finished us up with an old standard: Raffle We've been evaluating some McGill merch, and has some sample mugs we raffled off (for free): Pictures with Students Students often hang around for a bit after a performance, so they can get photos with their families: Helpers Of course, it takes a lot of help to put on a morning like this; here are some of the folks who came through for us: Decorations Speaking of coming through, the decorations were PHENOMENAL: Chatting with the Principal Ms Terry was busy engaging with the parents, like she does monthly at Coffee with the Principal. This month, we're pairing it with a celebration of grandparents, who are a beloved part of the McGill family. Watch the kids sing and dance their love! As you may know, San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD) and San Diego City College both reported ICE arrest activity outside their schools in recent weeks. To ensure San Diegans are aware of the rights every person in America is entitled to, regardless of immigration status, Rep. Scott Peters will host a virtual Know Your Rights training tomorrow, Tuesday the 22nd at 6pm PST. He will be joined by Rep. Juan Vargas (CA-52), Kids Belong in Classrooms, and Immigrant Defenders Law Center.

The training will ensure community members understand how to safely interact with federal law enforcement officers, what to do if they or their loved ones are detained by ICE, and what resources are available to San Diego’s immigrant community.
